Today is the dreaded changing of the clocks we have to do twice every year. When we have to change them in the winter it's not so bad because we gain an extra hour on that particular weekend. The downside is that we also end up with a darker morning.
One thing I really like about spring and summer though is that we can get home from work and it will be six or seven at night and I still have more than enough time to go for at least an hour ride. During the fall and winter months even if we leave work at four or five it gets dark too soon to go. Although at first I do still go, I just light up my bike like a Christmas tree and start dressing warmer.
New Stem
After taking the new bike out for a spin yesterday I have decided to put in an order for a new stem. It will be the exact same brand that I have on there now which is Zipp, but instead of it being a 90mm length with a 6° angle it will be 60mm with the same 6° angle.
For most this probably seems like a really short stem and it probably is. I am one that prefers the cockpit to be much more compact so I have all of the gears and related at my fingertips.
As it sits right now, everything is in a great position for me except for the seat and the handlebars. On my ride I was getting a little bit tingly on my hands and that is not a good sign after less that 20 miles. Heck, I normally don't feel like that after 60, 80 or 100 miles on my current bike so I need to fix it on the new one.
The seat angle needs to be tweaked a little more as well. Right now it's sitting at a few degrees down which can be favorable on days with a lot of climbing. On the other hand, yesterday it did little more than start to make me feel uncomfortable in the saddle, not good!
The guy that built my bike told me I can't go any lower with the seat post so my hope is that was a comment and not a factual statement from him. Reason being is that I would like it to be lowered just a little more so my reach is not quite as far. It's not terrible right now, though it could be easily improved I think so long as I have additional adjustment.
Last Day
More on this tomorrow, as you know it's Zoey's very first day in the kittens classroom. Friday was her final day in the lambs and it was tough to know that she would no longer be in that room. We really like the teachers and the vibe of the room so as she grows and continues to change rooms and teachers it will be something we will have to get used to. Heck at times possibly more than she will because we tend to worry about her emotions and stuff.
That Does It
Anyway, that is about all for today. I am getting ready to go for a ride in a few after I eat a quick cheese and bacon quesadilla for energy. Not sure how far I will go today, originally I had planned to do a long ride. I think until I get the bike fit just right I will keep the rides a little closer to home in case my body gives out or I have other problems.
Photo: Zoey trying on her birthday sunglasses. Only keeps them on for a few, they look great!
