Last night after I got home from cycling I made sure to not lay down for a very long otherwise I knew I would lose all of my motivation.
Instead I took that time to go outside and turn on the irrigation system. This may not seem like that big of a deal because everyone does it this time of year but for us, it's sort of a right of passage into spring and then summer. The sound of the sprinklers running every night or in the morning while laying bed is always pleasant.
Thankfully everything ran really well with no leaks or any major problems to speak of. The only negative part is that the metal detector that I bought to try and find the sprinkler heads when the grass is overgrown and smashed down from winter time did not work. That's okay though, instead I went ahead and measured out where they are at so I know for next year.
Cycling
Today I put my old seat on my new bike and went for a spin to see how things felt. It actually felt pretty good and I think I need another ride or two to see how much I like or dislike it. I can't see how I would dislike it since it's the exact same set-up as I had on my other bike. I am still fighting the handlebars a little bit because I think they need to be a little bit higher still, it never ends!
Then to top it all off my $400 pedals that I bought are squeaking like crazy and it's driving me nuts. I think I'm going to buy a new pair of pedals and a different style cleat to avoid dealing with it. My other option is to buy some different cleats for my shoes that don't have the rubber grips on them for walking and see if that is any better or not. The negative is they are slippery so there is the chance of falling on my ass or slipping big time if I am every cycling in the rain with this new road bike.
Anyway, there are a ton of people online that said the cleats without the grips worked really well. I guess they have some silicone injected portion on them that helps - no clue to be honest until I try them. So we will see if they work for me or not. I would really hate to have to lay down another couple hundred dollars for pedals if I don't need them. At the same time, the squeaking and crackling of the current pedals will drive me nutty if I don't do something to fix them.
Otherwise
That is about it for today. It has been a bit of a mellow day otherwise. Cicely has been kind enough to organizing some of the photos from Smugmug over to Dropbox, finally into Zenfolio. It's not an easy task but it's something she was willing to do and has been progressing along really well.
Tomorrow it's back to work and then time to start getting ready for midyear reviews and that sort of thing. To prepare myself for all of that I am taking off a few extra days for Good Friday. Not because it's Good Friday but more because we get that Friday off and I would like to use a few vacation days around that time to extend my weekend to five or six days.
My goal with that is to be able to do some cycling as well as get some things done around the house that I've been wanting to do like replace the garage door lock and things of that nature. I should have more than enough time to do that as well as get in some good rides. It will also give me the chance to mess around with some of the new parts that I want to try on the bike.
Anyway like I said more on all of that later. For now it's time to do the normal Sunday night things which means getting ready for the workweek and getting Zoey ready to go back to daycare now that she's feeling better. Super happy about that although Cicely is getting a cold now she thinks. Seems to always be something huh?
Photo: Cicely ran down to get food last night, made a quick stop at 7-Eleven to get me a soda and was struck by the impulse buy bug - to funny! Admittedly, I'm looking forward to trying them!
