Hellish Wind

Not a whole lot to rabble about today. I woke up just after 7am (woot!) to go for a spin, but I did not end up leaving the house until almost noon (boo!). Mostly because I was setting things up, making some last minute adjustments and so on before going out.

The Ride

Once on the road it was great, as usual making me wish that I had left a little earlier as I planned to, still happy that I was out on the bike.

It was windy, crazy windy to be perfectly honest. So much so that I considered turning back or cutting it short a few times mostly for safety, not so much because of the annoyance of the wind pushing against my chest.

Other times it was worse, the wind would gust unexpectedly from the side and nearly throw me out of the bike lane into the traffic lane or the gutter or ditch on the sides of the roads. Not fun in the least and really forces you to stay relaxed yet focused on the bike.

I had everything from headwinds to side winds. Tumbleweed-a-tumbling across the roads, coming towards me, forcing me to get creative with my speed and avoidance maneuvers. Heck at one point I even had to deal with a small dust devil swirling across the road toward me, both spinning and spitting up unwelcome debris.

Back Home

Thankfully I made it back home safe and sound without a scratch. Mostly dirt filled ears, wind blown skin and a hungry stomach were the extent of my wounds.

I managed to climb just over 3,600 feet of elevation and cycle 70 miles. This was not only a hard effort and rewarding personal achievement, it also allows me to now purchase the March shirt off of Strava for my efforts and cycling over 100km in a single ride.

This month I am also trying to earn the climbing reward for doing just under 14,000 feet of elevation. I have only 7 days left to complete that one which means a lot of it will be on the trainer if I am going to complete it.

So that's it really, that was my Sunday. Well playing with Zoey as well and Cicely showing up at one point on my ride to say 'Hello'. Nice day overall, my only regret is not getting out on the road earlier than I did - lesson learned.

Photo: The box for my newest addition to my cycling kit / addiction. Oakley Radarlock Path with polished white frames and the KILLER Prizm (vented) lenses in persimmon color. Loved these things today, so comfortable. Maybe another time I will post the actual glasses instead of the box teaser.
