Toy Season

Well I think that it's finally springtime / summertime in the area once again. The weather has been in the mid 70's all week and looks to stay that way for the remainder. I've been wearing shorts everyday since last Friday after school and that always makes me a happy camper. I will whine and cry once the super hot and dry days of summer get here, but until then I am enjoying it.

Toys

With summer always comes the wandering eyes at all of the toys popping up all around. I have always gone through this and some years I will pacify the urge where-as other years I keep myself under control and busy so I don't spend a ton of cash.

Generally it's everything from jet-skis and boats to getting a new scooter (road bike people not really a scooter) as well as many other toys in between. They do all have their pros and cons of course as well as limited use based on weather conditions of that year.

This season, similar to last, I have been looking into getting a mountain bike again to not only mix up my workouts but to do something a little different outdoors. Possibly getting Cicely involved as well at some point so that we are able to go on rides and take Zoey with us as well. They have these really cool trailers now for the kiddos to ride safely within. Built up with everything from roll bars and bumpers to various types of safety belts and seats.

It's a huge task for me to be honest. Finding a bike is so much more difficult than you would think it would be. Not only do you need to base it on price which can go from $350 up to $8000 and more in no time flat depending on what you are looking at and where you are looking at it - bike shop vs. Big box stores for example.

In reality I need something that I can use and grow into. Something that has bells and whistles as well as performance parts, although not top of the line nor bottom of the barrel entry level. I bet you are starting to see my dilemma and don't even get me started on the hard tail vs. full suspension debate that I have going on in my head. There are pros and cons to that as well because of my lower back issues and nothing to do with the cool factor or related.

I have a feeling this all sums up part of the reason that I am unable to make a decision when this idea pops into my head every year. Not to mention, I know it sounds kinds messed up, but I cant stand going into the local bike shop to get fitted / sold on something like this. I am not sure why, but it has always been one of those things that annoy me as a beginner. Same thing goes with going into some of the music shops. I think its the arrogance that many have and unknowingly or possibly very knowingly at times.

Ride On

Enough out of me on this subject for a day. I plan to continue to research and see what I can come up with. I need the outlet to get me out of the day to day cardio I do - elliptical or treadmill and that is it. While beneficial I need to mix it up a little to and I cannot stand exercise bikes, at least not the old school type my companies gym has. Ah, decisions all around - more on this later I am sure should I decide to pull the trigger on something. Until then, happy camel day!

Photo: One of the many models I am looking at. The prices on them vary so much and at times the differences are huge, other times not so much for someone using it more recreational as I would be. At times its hard to overlook the "cool factor" for the "what do you really need" factor.
