Performance
Today's class is all about performance management. It's perfect timing because I am currently working on mid-year reviews for my team and will soon be taking care of our 1:1 meetings to go over their past, present and future goals and objectives.
This time of year was always a pain as an individual contributor - filling out the reviews, tooting your own horn and so on but it's a necessary evil. Now that I am in management it's even that much more difficult because I not only have to do mine but I have to do them for the entire team as well as pass down goals and objectives to them so the too are in-line with the goals and objectives of the company, leadership and executive teams.
Anyway, I hope that in this class I get more tools for doing more effective reviews, development plans and related for my team. My company has a very structured approach for these things as you would expect a billion dollar company to, but extra tools at your disposal has never proven to be a bad thing in my experience.
Great class today so I hope that tomorrow it's more of the same. Lots of legal stuff that was very interesting as well as ways to analyze performance. There are a lot of ways to challenge my team as well as be conscious of those that may require additional support for much less challenging tasks.
So yea tomorrow should be a good one and I am looking forward to it. Unfortunately a lot went down at work that I need to take care of first thing Monday or head in over the weekend for a few and take care of it.
Picked Up
It was awesome when Cicely picked me up today because she brought both the fuzzy kid as well as Zoey. It's cool to get picked up by the family after a long day in school. In a few weeks when we are getting Zoey from daycare it will be nice to see her at the end of the day, obviously of course.
Anyway that will have to do it for today's entry. Time to take the fuzzy kid for a walk and get a little rest and chill after a long day in school.
