This unfortunately is very disruptive as you would expect. Developers are unsure if their destiny and stability. This can really hinder creativity and drive as well. People are afraid to speak up as much as they might have in the past or offer new ideas and solutions with the fear of standing out too much. At the same time if you don't stand out from the crowd at all then you may be seen as one that does not value your job, career and be one that is let go next time.
Thankfully there is much more to it than this and there is some research and hard looks into who goes and when for example. I don't think any one person is privy to those metrics other than a few top executives or maybe even only the CEO of the company. Obviously for good reason but it still sucks big time.
Leader, Mentor & Friend
So the confused part of my week took place yesterday just after lunch when I was notified that one of my leaders was released from the company for reasons undisclosed and even if I did know I would not post them here out of respect for everyone involved - it's not important to my entry anyhow.
No matter this came as a shock to many of us, most of us to be perfectly honest and my guess would be that the handful that may not have been blown away by the news were those that have been with the company for a very short time and simply did not have the pleasure of knowing this dedicated individual as I was fortunate enough to.
This individual took great strides to help get me to where I am today in my management role and was always a great sounding board for anyone that needed to vent or better understand situations or events, market changes or regulations or as simple as the best beer on tap at a local hangout.
He will be missed in our studio and I believe in our corporation as a whole as well. I don't think everyone fully realizes the impact his separation from the company will have as a whole.
If you read this you know exactly who you are. Thank you VERY much for the trust, knowledge and opportunities you have offered myself as well as many others. You are always fair and fun and I look forward to potentially working along side in the future one day should opportunities come from this.
Photo: Trash day, yeah that was all I could come up with for today's photo.
