I have a feeling that because baby Zoey got sick at school last week she brought the bugs home with her and intern she shared them with Cicely and I because I'm always in her face like a good dad should be as is Cicely like a good mom should be with her kiddo.
Speaking of Cicely, so far she has managed to escape the cold bug, although the week is not over yet and she may very well get it although I REALLY hope not. She has enough to do everyday on her own. Taking care of me, Zoey, Oggy and herself is like a part time job. If you then add a cold into the mix it becomes a job she is working overtime at, especially now that she is a mom full time.
I hesitate to say that the cold does not feel too bad at this point and if it doesn't get much worse than this it would be a fairly easy one to get through. I'm a little groggy but not overly so. I did take a splash of NyQuil last night just in case although still managed to wake up at 3:00 AM to take a piss.
New Bike
New Bike
So I made the decision last night that I am 99% sure that I am going to pull the trigger on a new bike when I go into the shop to pick up my bike. It's a lot of cash to throw down but I really enjoy cycling and want more of the creature comforts of a new one. Especially the electronic shifting system.
Speaking of which the electronic setup for the shifting system is amazing from what I have read and what I have heard from others that have been using them for a year or so now. The guys at the shop are going to let me demo the bike for test ride, heck they would probably let me take it and demo it for a day or two if I asked them to. It's really not necessary, I will know straight away if I like it or not and my guess is that I will.
What's more is that the adjusting and all that related crap goes right out the window. There is only one real adjustment, okay two but they are essentially the same. Those are the low and high maximums for the dérailleur. One so you don't put your dérailleur into the spokes and the other so you don't dump your chain into the frame.
I will also be going with the normal brakes at this point instead of the disc brakes. Disc brakes would be sweet but they are so dam noises on the mountain bike and I would hate dealing with that on the road bike. All of the squeaks and stuff I have already drive me nuts if I don't have ear-buds in. It's the nature of carbon fiber though so no sweat.
Last I am going with a wider tire and a tubeless setup. I will still have the chance of getting flats of course but at least it should be reduced quite a bit. If not then maybe at that time I can say hell with it and swap back over to traditional tuned tires like I run currently. It's not that its difficult to change them, it just takes all the steam out of my ride to stop in 90°+ weather to swap a tube.
Alrighty Then
I am going to call that the end of the game for today. It was a decent day, felt like I was able to get a lot done and even made it to the gym for cardio and a stationary bike ride. I tried to put my Santa Cruz Heckler mountain bike on the trainer last night and it does not work. It has a large through axle and the trainer is setup for smaller axles like what is on the road bike axle.
Okay for real this time! Want to get home tonight and attempt to 3D print some more things, aka waste more material on shxt that won't work as expected, ha ha. It's part of it and I knew that going in although I thought while it may be difficult at times I still figured it would be more accurate than it is. Especially after waiting for 3 to 10+ hours for a print only to have it fail, be completely wrong or not fit together as expected and intended. Especially when trying to print fasteners such as a bolt and nut. I have printed several and all with zero success as far as threading together.
Oh well that is the natural love-hate relationship when it comes to hobbies of all kinds and especially when those hobbies are like this and involve technology, new technology at that!
Photo: Sure, I know - say whatever you want to say but this was my breakfast before work this morning and it was good. Especially when sick it feels nice to have a warm bowl, then a warm belly of farina hot cereal. To add to it, I threw in cranberries too - nom, nom, nom!
