I have been working on getting a telepresence system set up in one of our special 'top secret' areas of the studio for nearly 2 months. Most of the footwork was necessary because of standard corporate hoops I had to jump through and for good reason obviously, security being one of them.
Anyway, yesterday I was finally finished with the setup and was able to run a few tests and determine the best way to use the telepresence robot that I ordered along with the new iPad 2 Air that is the interface for said bot.
The Delivery
Because this technology is new to the team that I gave it to I had to make sure everything was setup perfectly and would go off without a hitch.
I started by providing detailed instructions on how to set the device up, how to configure the software as well as how to make an account at the necessary places to run the software.
Next like all things that I do from racing to financial planning and cycling I wanted to have a 'plan B' in place to ensure the success of the devices first use. To accomplish this I setup additional methods of conferencing and the necessary software, phone numbers and so on to make it all work as a back up. After much anticipation for this device the last thing I wanted was for it to fail during its first meeting. Thankfully it seemed that all the stars were aligned for me.
Lift Off
So this morning I was expecting to have an email or several emails relating to the fact that the telepresence device did not work as well as expected and may not be an optimal choice for using in our top secret development room.
In the end the emails that I did receive were actually very well done in the way that they gave kudos to the device and that the set up and instructions that I provided worked flawlessly. They still have one more meeting to do today so we will see if that has the same results, if so that will mean in my book it was a success. Otherwise it may be back to the drawing board to figure out if I can somehow improve the Wi-Fi in that location or find some other alternative way to hardware in to the network then provide Wi-Fi out from that.
Satisfied
With that good news behind me I think I'm going to call it a day with this entry and move on to my next dilemma. Attempting to get one of the community laptops I upgraded to for my team to use when needed. The problem has been with the domain being different and IS/IT will no longer give me the option to put it on both of them.
Unfortunately it's more of a need or must have compared to a want. Namely because part of my team is on one domain, the other half is on another. If we can only log onto the one then it eliminates the use of the hardware by more than 75% of my team.

Anyway, on to that project to see how it goes and what I can do to get it resolved as soon as possible! Progress is good and feels good during crazy weeks or days - it just takes a lot out of me!
Otherwise the week is nearly over and I can't wait. We should have really nice weather again this weekend so I would like to go for at least one ride outside, preferably one each day. My only dilemma is that we have a birthday party to attend Saturday early afternoon so I need to get out and cycling early otherwise I will be hosed.
In reality it's probably the best idea anyhow to go for a decent ride in the morning. Birthday parties, especially for kids are filled with cake and sweets. Birthday parties for adults are usually filled with beer and fried foods, chips, dips and so on. Either way it's a bit of a lose lose in terms of mindful healthy eating. More on that Saturday I'm sure, until then - have a nice Thursday!
Photo: Today's lunch. A Reuben sandwich on foccacia gluten free bread and a small tomato soup (not shown). Very nom, nom, nom! Still gave me the farts like crazy though, I think it was the sauerkraut and probably the meat more than anything of course.
