Livingroom Gymnastics

Seems that all of us were overly tired last night for one reason or another. Everyone was either in bed by 10:00 or had taken a nap earlier after work and stayed up a couple hours only to come to bed and get some more sleep.

Zoey was the first one, going to sleep at just after 7:00 last night and not waking up once until almost 8:00am this morning to have breakfast.

I was beat and laid in the bed for a few minutes only to nap for an hour or two, get up, have some dinner and surf the net for a little while and go back to sleep just over an hour later.

Cicely was in the same boat as I was except she also made dinner and after stayed up working on designs until 1:00am or so before calling it a day.

All in all this was a really successful night of sleep around here compared to the long nights of teething pains and related the first part of the week and over the past weekend.

Tumbling Down

Last night while I was going through everything that came in the mail and from UPS and FedEx, Cicely was getting stuff out to decide what was for dinner and getting Oggy jazzed up verbally to go for a short walk down to the mailbox.

Zoey was on the couch, tucked in and laying at a bit of an angle as usual so she could enjoy her bottle and we could get a few things done. We also position her like this so she has a roll of thick blanket as a barrier to assist in keeping her from rolling off of the edge.

This has worked perfectly for just over 10 months now with no close calls or anything. Well last night things changed and our statistics of many bottles, zero roll offs came to an end. As I was walking back towards the kitchen from the front door with stuff from the Amazon order, I heard a thump followed by another thud then a final slight thump.

As you would imagine this was immediately followed by the biggest screeching scream we have ever heard in the house. By this time I was already headed over to her and Cicely was right behind me. There was Zoey laying on the floor between the couch and the large, but soft, leather coffee table. Her little eyes had rivers of tears running down her cheeks, generating rapids from her cute little dimples in her cheeks. Speaking of cheeks, her little cheeks were as red as a fire truck due to all of the excitement and being scared of what happened minutes before.

I picked her up, she screamed and screamed, more scared and unclear as to what just happened and why the mean old couch threw her off. I held her close while both Cicely and I checked her head for any bumps or cuts, made sure all arms and legs worked and that she hadn't bitten her tongue with those shiny new teeth.

All systems were a go and it was now Cicely's turn to hold, comfort and double, triple, quadruple check her for anything. Still a clean bill of health from mom other than mom also being scared and a little upset and shaken up about the whole event. Probably pissed at me for not noticing Zoey heading towards the edge of the couch as I walked by as well.

Just before this all went down Cicely had asked me to "keep an eye on her while she takes Oggy to get the mail". I of course said no problem - unfortunately this happened in a blink of an eye after I agreed to do so - figures huh? So I felt guilty and a bit at fault as well.

In the end she was okay as mentioned and nothing more than a little shocked up from the ordeal. We were also concerned that she may have bonked her head just right and it hurt more than it would have otherwise because of the new teeth coming in on top.

I am fairly confident hat the sequence of events was she rolled over slightly to crawl or look around once her bottle fell out of her mouth. When she did this she was closer to the edge then she realized so she decided to do a slight roll and sit up like she does. This led to her falling either sideways or backwards off the couch hitting the big throw rug that is on top of the carpet, next banging her head on the side of the thankfully soft leather coffee table.

The only thing that was hard that I think she may have whacked would have been her head against one of the legs on the coffee table which are solid wood. I'm fairly certain that the legs are tucked under enough nor high enough to have been a part of the tumbling crash.

It's all part of growing up and something that we have all had to deal with at some point in our lives. There are going to be much bigger falls, scrapes, bruises and hopefully never stitches or anything like that although it's all par for the course for the little ones, heck I still fall, get bumps and bruises too at my age. Of course it's in part because my mind thinks I am still in my early twenties.

Not to forget that once she starts walking she will have many more stumbles, trips and slips. Then learning to do things like ride a bike, snowboard, skateboard, ski, gymnastics and everything in-between will increase the odds of injury even more for her day lesson after lesson.

All that aside, she is still my little girl and whether she is falling off the couch onto a soft floor, off the swing landing in dirt or gravel or heck even on the grass or corduroy groomed hills and trails at resorts it still makes my heart sink.

I'm glad you were okay kiddo and momma is as well. The only thing we ask is that you please keep these circus acts to a minimum. I don't think we could handle them being a frequent occurrence especially if they involved injury! Whether band-aids or stitches they all hurt and scare you - just know, we are always there for you when you fall.

Cubed

Today once we were out of the house, warm house today by the way, no problems with the electricity in the area so we had a nice warm waking up experience. Anyway, out the door and we hauled ass to get Zoey to daycare and us to work. We had a meeting to get to at 10:00 for the entire 3 studios and it was already pushing 10:00 and a lot of traffic outside.

We make it there with nearly 8 minutes to spare - perfect! Problem was, Cicely realized that she had forgotten the bottles, the same bottles that I was side tracked on and never managed to make Zoey this morning. So after the all-hands meeting it was a trip over to the store to get some of the pre-made formula and get it back to her at school.

All-in-all it worked out and everything went well. We made it to the meeting and Zoey got her bottles shortly after we were let out of it. So I think that will be about it for today. Should something else come up I will certainly add to this.
