So last night it was time to pull out the NyQuil and chug a few swigs. I was pretty tired although I was running a low temperature of +/- 96.2°. Not totally uncommon for me. When sick that is about the time that my temperature is generally much closer to what most peeps would consider to be in the normal range for an adult.
For me, normal is all over the chart at times depending on what my body is dealing or not dealing with at any given moment or day. My 'normal' is a degree or so below the typical 'normal' and always has been.
Managerial-ism Mayhem
So I thought for sure yesterday was gonna be interesting because of the fact that I was tired of being asked the same question over and over by particular group that really had no vested interest in what it was they were asking me for and about day after day. Well other than the assumption that it was something for them, which was not.
Yesterday, first thing I received was an email that was asking the same question once again and now it was the straw that broke the camels back. I replied very politically correct and in a business state of mind, at the same time making the point very clear on where I stood on the things that they could do in the meantime to make everything better for themselves should they decide to take the initiative rather than relying on me. They or course did nothing of the sort.
The two in question do not report to me nor do I report to them therefore I am under no obligation to do anything for them above and beyond helping them out when I have time and I choose to do so. What's more is that the two pieces of hardware that they continue to bother me about they knew nothing about until I started pushing for it more and more and finally was able to get it approved through senior management. Suddenly this has been identified as something they need otherwise the game is destined for failure.
The biggest challenge they are going to have is with the current network and WiFi as I have mentioned time and again to them both since Thanksgiving! You would think that they would have gotten the ball rolling if they were so concerned about the device working once I was able to get it setup and in the room for them. Nope, zero momentum or effort by either.
In the end just like all things it will work out. I really don't like having to be a bit of a hard ass, at times it's necessary to protect the things that my team needs or those things that I believe in that are correct for the direction we are heading. Hopefully there are no hard feelings over it. In the end it's a business decision not a personal attack. That said, the last thing I am ever going to do is lie down and be walked over by anyone.
Cicely's Wrist
So this afternoon a little while after lunch Cicely sent me a text with a photo of her arm, her wrist actually. Something is either bothering her really bad that she ate or is maybe she is wearing? Both of which are actually fairly improbable because nothing has changed in those respects.
Our best guess is that it's an allergic reaction of some sort from the chemicals she uses when she works with her resin and plastics. Either that or the gloves she is using are the wrong type for working with those materials and chemicals.
Lately she has been using a latex glove. I have a feeling that she should be using the nitrile gloves instead. Neither one of us know "for sure", although I think it's something that needs to be investigated so she is not messing up her skin, lungs or anything else for that matter.
More on all of this tomorrow if things do not get back to normal on her wrist and forearm. Also we did do a little research and I guess she is supposed to be using a vinyl glove? I will have to do a little digging around and see if I can find them online and get her a box of them to try.
Does It
That will do it for today's blogger entry. It has been a fairly busy day with meetings and several other things thrown in here and there.
I did have a conversation with senior management this morning to verify that I was not too far off base when talking to a couple of people in my studio as mentioned at the start of this entry. As a manager I need to put my foot down at times and this was one of them.
I was told that I handled it exactly as I should have and it was handled in a professional manner as well, cool. I am aware that I am not in the position I am in to make everyone happy, I need to make everyone do what is best for the company and our goals, within reason obviously. This is what was done and will continue to be done.
Anyway, with that tomorrow is Friday and I am hoping to pick my road bike up from the shop on Saturday if all goes as planned. I also plan to take Cicely's bike in that I bought her and see about trading it in for a bubblegum colored beach cruiser bike that she is interested in. I think in the long run it makes more sense for her and she can trailer Zoey around with it as well if she wants!
Photo: A photo I think Cicely must have taken that ended up on my digital camera roll. I think it's cool so I used it for today's photo.
