Birthdays
Today is also a day filled with two birthdays that are very important to us. The first happy birthday goes out to my sister Kelly - happy birthday Kelly! I hope you are having an awesome day or by now have had an awesome day doing whatever you wanted to do with your day. This means you would have had cake and napped as much as you wanted or a combination of those things. Again, whatever you wanted and how you wanted it should have been the theme for the entire day.
The second happy birthday wish goes out to my handsome fuzzy kid Oggy! Oggy turned 9 years old today which is considered somewhere around midlife for these little guys - Chihuahuas. I hate knowing that statistic to be perfectly honest, it's not fair. I really wish fuzzy kids lived to be double that or more. We love him so much and he has been there for so many things in our lives. He is so smart, caring and an all around great boy.
He is well trained as well. He went to school all the way from puppy training through having three other classes that he not only passed with flying colors but was amazing in as well. He only had one more class and test to become a therapy dog like his uncle, we decided against it. He had been through enough classes and was already the perfect boy in every way we could have asked for and most of it on his own.
He knows his commands both verbally and via hand-signals. He knows that he needs to go outside to pee and poo even in the worst of weather and does so every time. Sure he has the occasional throwing up accident but more times than not he even goes outside to take care of that.
As mentioned he has been here with us through it all. From Cicely and I getting engaged to getting married on the beach up at Lake Tahoe. He has been by my side for many surgery recovery periods as well as waiting for me in the pits at every race I entered while racing karts. Oggy was here when we found out we were going to be parents and when we brought home our little Zoey.
He has done his best to welcome her into his home and learn to keep his distance as well to avoid the flailing hands of a 10 month old sister.
Oggy lost his best friend in the world around this time last year, my moms dog who was also a therapy dog, Nemo. They were buds from the start and were the only pair that never bickered. Oggy loved going over to moms for visits and spending time with his uncle and best buddy. I know he will always remember him and we see Nemo's personality in Oggy's actions all the time. They were such good buds and both such good boys.
As I type this Oggy is on my lap, keeping a close eye on his sister playing with a car on the floor. He is a great boy and a huge part of our family. We love you very much Oggy, Happy birthday!
Today
It has been a good day and a nice start to the new year. We watched an episode, two actually, of this show called Mirror Black and it is actually a really good one. I saw it a few months back but Cicely did not seem very interested in watching it so I never added it to our Netflix queue.
Well last night she came across someone writing about it on Reddit and of course she was then immediately interested in watching it. Funny how that seems to always be the case. I can give her the full song and dance about something new and more often than not the feeling of self discovery makes your better half want to participate in something, watch a new show or try a new food or drink.
Printer
As soon as I finish writing this up I am going to head in and get the Cube printer setup and running our first calibration, print and so on as well as registering it, naming it and all of that jazz. More on that later once I get it setup and ready to print out some of our own files.
Cycling
I was selected for the beta program of the Zwift iPhone companion application yesterday and I am totally stoked about it. I am planning to go for a short ride tonight if possible with my hurt back, otherwise I would feel like a real asshole for them accepting me and me not doing any rides.
Plus with today being the first of the year I figure what better a way to start off the year than to get a ride in even if only a few short miles as to not piss off my back even more.
I took an ibuprofen 800mg today and it has actually helped me out quite a bit along with this deep heating pad that I stuck on, well that Cicely stuck on my back earlier. The thing lasted about 6 to 8 hours surprisingly enough - I figured that it would last an hour or two at the most especially because it was a year expired. Yep one year, I still used it and it was obviously fine. Now I need to find more of them because these have no scent which is awesome.
Resolutioners
All of the New Year resolutioners should be hitting the gym today or tomorrow for their few days in the gym before giving up and moving on with the life they had before they decided to make something up to resolve or improve in 2015.
Normally I will get up on a soapbox about this on the first day of the year and still very well might at some point if they start to get in my way and piss me off at the gym everyday. Otherwise I just remind myself that they will be gone as quickly as they came and not back again until just before summer to get into those swimming suits and tone up their winter bodies into beach bodies. Then last but not least they usually start to show up around thanksgiving again in preparation for visiting family and friends.
No resolutions here, I just continue to try and be a better person every year and go from there. If I succeed even a little bit then it's a success and I generally always do, it's not really that much to ask of yourself or someone else to be better to one another. We are all working hard for the most part and in the same boat, you know, paying for the douche-bags that don't want to work or are playing the system and we are proving for them.
Sure there are those that truly need it but they should be pissed off as well. The same ones that are abusing the system are taking money, food, healthcare and so on right out of their hands as well. We are talking about veterans, those that are disabled and so on. We treat and take care of piece of shxt thugs in prisons better than these people that fought for us or for wars we should not have been involved in, in the first place.
Anyway
Time to jump off of that topic or I will easily get on a soapbox for a solid 10 paragraphs or so, lol. Instead I will try to get my ass dressed and go out and get on the bike for a few miles while my back is feeling a little bit better. Probably a pretty dumb move on my part to do so but I really want to start my year off on the right foot, my back will heal whether I do or not. I can't as easily add a ride to my calendar once the day is gone!
