No matter the lights were going out at the hospital while we were at the tail end of our class and most of the area was dark when we left the building so something must have tripped the circuits downtown. I am not sure what exactly because the weather was not that bad at that point.
Fast forward to late last night and into this morning it has been raining really good and through the night non-stop. While annoying at times it's still nice to have some moisture in the air after such a dry winter so far. This morning the hard rain finally turned to snow but kept up the fast paced downpour just as it had when raining. Thankfully the ground is still warm otherwise we may be in for some nasty driving and weather conditions in general. I guess it could still happen if it keeps up for the majority of the day though.
I as usual do not feel like dealing with it but what choice do I have really? I am happy that the mountains are finally getting some much needed moisture and hopefully peeps will be able to pack up their gear and get some runs in this weekend. I am sure it will be a mess because everyone has probably been itching to ski and snowboard. I would be pissed if we had purchased a season pass this year and were not able to go now that it's nearly February. We would have most likely traveled somewhere that did have a decent snow pack so we could get some runs in.
Anyway, "hello snow" I am happy to see you but sincerely hope that you do not plan to stick around for very long. If you would like to come back this weekend that is fine, but give us a couple more days of rain or cloudy weather first, thanks!
Public Speaking
Tomorrow is my studio's first all-hands meeting that will contain only our side of the studio, the south side. We do not have a name at this point because they are still taking suggestions and people are still thinking about them I assume and hope. Mostly because we were told at our leadership meeting yesterday that there were less than 10 people out of over 150 that submitted name suggestions. I mean really - c'mon peeps! Everyone bitches about this or that but when they have the opportunity to be a part of something they turn their noses up at the chance and think that they don't matter or they have only silly or stupid ideas.
Sorry but that is what it's all about. You have to try otherwise nothing is going to change and the part that you take in things will only feel that much more claustrophobic to you on a daily basis in your career. All of us are skittish when it comes to things like this. I plan to send an email out to my team to today and ask them to please submit "something" to show that we are taking part in the event. That will probably go over like a "fart in church" as some would say but I gotta try.
I figured that if I have to get up in front of 150+ developers tomorrow and talk about my team that is the least that they can do. I have only done public type speaking at my awards banquets and related so this will be new to me. Plus at the awards banquets 90% of the audience has made a few trips to the bar and are feeling pretty good. Because of this your jokes go over better, your speech seems smoother and things you may have messed up are not remembered as well.
Tomorrow it will be first thing in the morning for the most part so there will be no time for me to spike the punch and get everyone into the mode I am use to. I guess I simply need to put on my big boy pants and dive into the deep end. Whats the worse that could happen? I mess up and get over the hump and it gets easier from here on out - hopefully. More on that tomorrow once I calm down from being up in front of everyone.
Good Day
Well happy Thursday to everyone, I hope the week has been treating you fair. If not there is always today, tomorrow or next week as I always say. Don't give up just because of a few bad laps around the track. Get back to the pits, access the damage or what is going wrong and get out on the track again. If you don't, I guarantee you that the other guy will and will continue to kick your ass. Yes whether relating to racing or your professional life this hold true. Have a great day
**Update: The snow has basically been non-existent since around 11:00 today. The streets are just barely wet from this morning and that is about it. I guess in parts of the country like Georgia this would have caused highways to shutdown, but not here in Nevada!
Oh and if you wonder why I am picking on Georgia, its because they had 2 to 2.5 inches of snow the first part of the week and the highways became parking lots, they considered calling a state of emergency and so on. It's crazy to think how different things are in places that don't have the infrastructure in place for events of mother nature like that.
Photo: Addiction comes in many forms my friend. Many forms indeed. Between the dry weather of Nevada and the characteristics of Carmex I am probably a customer for life - Burt's Bees too.
