I has been just over 14 days now and it has been great. We have had meals with family, opened presents from each other and from others as well as shared holiday time with everyone including Cicely's mom who was here for 4 days. Today it's time for us to start wrapping things up and get back into the normal mode of the working life and the new year beginning for us in that manner.
Sure we still have today to do whatever we choose as well as Saturday and Sunday but knowing that the time is short it makes it bitter sweet as mentioned. There are and always will be so many things that we should have, could have, or simply forgot to do while we had the time to do so. We cant look at it that way obviously and need to focus on what is ahead as well as what today can become as we generally try to do.
Unfortunately Cicely was having a bit of a rough night with the pregnancy and had some gnarlier than usual indigestion that ended up waking her up and then keeping her awake off and on for several hours - boo! Because of this she is still in bed as I write this and it's already nearly noon. Poor girl, but at least she can start to see the light at the end of the tunnel with only 10 weeks to go before baby decides to join us and keep us up even more!
3D Printer
We managed to get the letters and decorations painted last night and it was unfortunately much more difficult than we anticipated. The wood already had some sort of a glossy varnish on them that appeared to only be a primer coating - not the case. So it took us nearly 3 or 4 coats of paint, depending on the color, to get a decent coverage on them. I think they look pretty cool / cute and will look great hanging in the nursery.
Today on my list is to FINALLY get my ass in gear an start building my 3D printer. Yea I have had 14 days to do it and have managed to not start to assemble a single piece of it. I honestly don't know what is wrong with me lately when it comes to projects. In the past I was always a dive into them immediately and don't stop until they are done kind of person. I think that I have somehow managed to make too many projects for myself which has in turn overwhelmed me for the time being.
No matter I am a full on proponent of the better late than never mentality if and when I need to be so today that will be my goal. To work on the printer at least for a solid 4 to 5 or maybe more hours and see what I can get accomplished. This way it will hopefully give me some positive reinforcement to continue on other projects as well as the printer build.
Part of me does still wish that I had simply bought the model of the printer that was already assembled for the additional $100 cost upfront and I would be up and running already. But I am stubborn and really want to learn the ins and outs of these printers the best that I can and figured building one made the most sense. Every model is quite a bit different from one another but the print heads and generally functionality is similar enough that building one should prove beneficial.
I will say without any hesitation that whatever printer I end up getting next I am planning to purchase it pre-assembled so I am up and running soon after the box arrives and I do a little setup and plug the bastard into the wall outlet.
Molly
Last but not least I wanted to say goodbye to a friend and coworker that I have known since before starting work at my game studio. Her name is Molly and she has worked for the company longer than 99% of the long term peeps. If my memory is correct the other long term "lifers" have worked there around 25 years.
Molly has been with the company for 32 years. Well all that will be behind her now because today marks her last day with the company. She is retiring and moving on to other things in life. She may do more music with her husband Glenn who is an amazing country musician or as she put it; "just let the doors swung open, relax and see what blows in". I think that is a great attitude, of course she has always been positive like that anyhow.
Best of luck to you Molly, you are an amazing person in every way. I look forward to seeing you around and being jealous of all the great adventures you have stories to tell about. Until then I hope that you enjoy every minute of retirement, being a grandma and great grandma and everything in between! We will all miss seeing you and your bubbly personality around the campus.
Good 'Nuff
So with that I am going to close the lid on this entry and focus on the things that I would like to do today. It's far too easy to sit on the computer watching YouTube video's, research how-to video's on anything and everything or simply surfing around aimlessly reading and learning about something that interests me.
Thankfully I tend to not waste time on the internet watching funny videos and that sort of thing but rather try to stay productive when online - in some manner anyway. I have had days where you stumble and fall into the rabbit hole because of one funny video you came across or that a friend or coworker forwarded to you to share. Part of the fun I know, but dam is it a slippery slope!
With that happy Friday to those of you that have had to put in some work already this week. I will jump back into it all next week hopefully bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and kick 2014 in the balls first thing so it knows who is in charge this year! Until tomorrow - enjoy!
Photo: A glance into the artwork we are painted nice and bright for babies room. I am so excited while doing this kind of stuff for her words cant even describe and I cant wait to meet you!
