The Week
This past week was full of so many new opportunities and challenges for me. I am hoping, and am told, that every week nor every day is not quite so hectic when you're in a management role. It just happens to be that way right now because of our schedule getting switched around.
It's all good because it's information that I probably would not have otherwise learned right off. I am more of a dive in the deep end and swim to the shallow end type of person rather than wait for the water to come to me and get deeper and then figure out how to get out of it. I bet that horrible analogy makes sense to anyone else but I know what I am trying to say and that is all that matters, yes?
Today is not scheduled to be as mellow as yesterday was but I still am much freer than I have been the rest of the week. I have my normal game development meetings which are usually pretty quick and productive so those are no big deal. It's the meetings that I have no idea what I'm getting into that are still a little intimidating for me.
I don't like to have the wrong answer or sat that I don't know the answer but at the same time those around me have to realize that I am learning just as they had to once. Luckily for me I have an awesome group of managers and directors to support me as my peers and help me along the way. I feel really fortunate for that and I am going to try to learn everything I can from them all.
School
Last night while waiting for Cicely to get back from her hair appointment I finished up a little bit of work that I have been putting off. Well not really putting off because of laziness but because of lack of time. Anyway I was finally able to register for my next class towards my certificate up at the college. It does not start until February 13th so that gives me a little time to prepare mentally and sort of get in the groove in my current position before missing several days of work for it.
I am actually extremely happy that the class is not up at the campus but rather the satellite campus that is closer to my game studio. Not only does that make it easier for me to get to but it also makes it much easier for parking and related. When you attend the classes up at the campus you have to go through all of this crap with parking passes and so on. It's such a pain in the ass to have to do all of that when they are sometimes only a two day class. They should have something set-up for these classes so we don't have to go through all of that hoopla!
No matter it will feel good to get a class out-of-the-way. Had things gone as they were supposed to I would have been in class this week and would already have one under my belt by the end of today. Unfortunately as I mentioned before, the class was canceled due to a death in the professors family. So it will be rescheduled hopefully at a time I am able to attend.
With baby on the way in March I have to really make sure that I am available at all times in case Cicely needs my attention. I don't want to be stuck up at UNR and then find out I have to run to the hospital or over to work to get her then try to get to the hospital ASAP. I guess worst case I can deliver the baby since I know a lot about it now after taking the birthing classes, ha ha! I don't think she would be very excited about that scenario though. Honestly neither would I but I would do it if I needed to.
Happy 30th
Also today marks the 30th anniversary of the mac. Being a Mac person, and using them for many many years both professionally and personally I am happy they are around. Sure my Windows based machines do amazing things as well and very well, but the style of my Mac and related Apple products are 2nd to none in comparison.
I still have a Macintosh Color Classic at home that I will never part with. The thing is so cool and holds some sentimental value for me as well because of where I was in my life at that time and all the things I learned etc. I will post a photo tomorrow of the article in today's paper. I would post a photo of my color classic but I don't want to dig it out and unwrap it. Anyway, happy 30th Mac!

About It
I think that does it for today. Looking forward to a nice weekend and potentially going down to Carson to visit mom since it has been a couple weeks since we were down there.
We are also thinking of getting Cicely her new car this weekend as well to get it out of the way. We are turning her current car, the VW Beetle, back into the dealership in a couple weeks so we want to have the new car taken care of before then if at all possible. More on that this weekend if it happens.
Photo: Elevator buttons at the hospital where we take our birthing classes. Yea, random I know.
