Cicely has a baby shower coming up in a few weeks so that means we will get even more stuff that we need for baby. She had one last week at work as well and we got a lot of stuff from it. Mostly diapers, and a lot of them which is great. We also received some clothes and a few accessories and toys for baby. Then the studio as a whole pitched in and gave us a $100 gift card to the baby store we are registered at. I was blown away by this and we are so thankful for it!
Today
I think today will consist of the usual laundry, grocery store, cutting my hair and that sort of thing. We want to get the letters hung up on the wall in the baby room as well as get a few more things unpacked so I can start to assemble them. I still have yet to build our 3D printer or setup and/or build any of my new multi-rotor helicopters and others that I have picked up in the past few months. This really sucks but I have been so overwhelmed with everything else that I have not been able to pull myself away to do any of it. It will happen, I just have to dive in and do it.
Supercross
Watched the supercross races last night. The guys were in Oakland this time and will be in Anaheim for the 3rd and final visit there next week. As usual there was nothing but great racing and a crazy fast technical track for them to run on. Last nights track had the dragons back section as well which I always like. Not personally when on track but when watching - it's really cool to see how different riders tackle the section. There was a pretty gnarly quad that some of the riders hit later in the race in the main event. You had to set-up for that perfect and get on the brakes hard after making it otherwise you would have issues at one end or the other. If you made it you could save upwards of a full second on that laps time so it was worth the risk if you needed to make up time.
Unfortunately the main racer that I follow, #7 did not make the top of the podium in Oakland but he ended up in second. Not a bad way to end the night. He is trying to get over being sick the past couple of weeks so instead of only going balls out crazy he is trying to focus on points rather than the top of the podium. Sure being on top gives you the most points and cash but consistency can prove to be the bigger advantage in the end.
Mom
We went down to Carson City yesterday afternoon as planned to visit mom. She is in a new room now a few halls over from where she was before. She seems to like the area and I think has a much nicer room. Right across the hall from her is the movie room as well where the facility has movies playing all day so the residents can go in and watch some TV if they don't have one in their room. It's probably empty more times than not sadly. I think the focus it takes to sit and watch a show is simply not there for those with dementia or Alzheimer issues.
No matter she seemed content and looks good like she has been eating well and getting rest. She does still mention wanting to go home, but I think that is more habitual now to break the silence when we are all in her room. We stayed for a couple hours until it was time for her to have dinner so that was nice. I think she has been eating in her room so we walked her down to the dinning room to get her out and let her get some stimulation from other residents instead of hiding out in her room eating. We left once I sat her down and made sure she was comfortable so I hope that she stayed down there with everyone, it's good for her.
She does seem to be talking to herself more than she use to but I think that is just part of the progression of the disease. It's really hard watching a parent go through something like this though, much harder than I could have prepared for as well. I am saddened that she will never truly know her granddaughter and that Zoey will never really know her awesome grandma but that is something I have to live with and not dwell on.
Mophie
Yesterday I finally picked up a "juice pack" for my iPhone 5. This one is the "plus" version that gives the phone an additional 120% battery life. This will be awesome to have now that I am in meetings all of the time and once baby is here or while Cicely is in the hospital it will give me the extra battery life to be able to let everyone know the status of momma and baby as well as take a zillion, yes a zillion photos of our precious little one!
So far so good though. I tried it out last night and it charges the phone pretty darn fast. I guess it does better if the phone is less than 80% though so I need to keep that in mind. I think of it like blowing up an air mattress. The first 80% is the easiest but the last 20% you have to blow much harder to get it completely filled up. Very similar with the Lithium Ion batteries. Should be a great addition while in school in the coming weeks as well. I will need a battery that can last me all day, so this should be able to do the trick. Time will tell how it works out I guess - more on that later if it turns out to be a huge piece of shxt though.
From what I have read the $119 price tag is well worth it and most everyone has had little to no issues with the product. I only wish that it had more charge cycles available. The user guide says that it has 500 cycles which is not really that many. I guess that refers to full 0% to 100% cycles only. So incremental cycles have to add-up to a 100% before counting as 1 cycle of the 500 estimated. So 4 25% charges would then only count as 1 of the 500. I figured if I get a good year or 2 out of it that it was worth the investment.
Focus
Alright, it's time to eat some breakfast and focus on the day ahead of me. I could sit on the couch and research, watch training videos or simply surf around the web all day but that is not the way to get things done now is it? I will save some of the video watching for tonight or while I am on the treadmill this morning. That will not only give me something to look forward to but it really helps pass the 30 to 45 minutes of cardio some days. I always enjoy it, but there are those days that my mind wanders and I just want to be done! I am sure we have all been there at one time or another.
With that, have a great Sunday! The weather is awesome here as it has been and looks as though it will remain that way for another week at least. I feel bad for the ski resorts because they have gotten almost zero moisture and it's not even cold enough to make snow. Not a good business to be in the past couple years that's for sure! Hopefully it turns around for them soon, but I have to admit I hope that they keep the snow up there, I don't want to deal with it in the valley.
Photo: "Universal Precautions" sign I stumbled upon while visiting mom. I like to take photos of signs. Probably strange to some I guess, oh well.
