Jumping In Head First

Today marks the official first day of my new position and it is not without a lot of work, decisions and preparation already. I cannot believe the whirlwind of things that have already either been tasked or simply surfaced since the announcement at yesterday's all hands meeting.

Already I am actually very excited about the challenges and what the future will hold for me in this new role. I feel as though I have the support from my team for the most part and those I am insure about u simply need to take the initiative to better understand their needs and desires in their career so I can try to better facilitate their goals along the way in the best way that I can.

Meetings

Today and into next week I will be in a lot of meetings and quick 1:1 chat sessions with various groups and disciplines. I look forward to the experience and the chance to get to know everyone and find out what their plans are for the upcoming year and the ideas they may have set into motion already for their groups.

Today is more of the same because I have to try and facilitate some new swapping of teams to try and better suit the needs of individuals as well as the studio as a whole. I am and always will be that type of a manager but overall it needs to be for the greater good of the team and the studio and not individuals.

The only time I would go against that is when it comes to tools and training. I think everyone needs to have those resources available to them and our choices need to be made to facilitate the lowest common denominator as well as the mad scientist of the group.

Friday

Otherwise it is Friday and I am looking forward to the weekend at home with Cicely and the fuzzy kid. The weather is supposed to be great and that may give us the opportunity to get Oggy out for a nice walk. If not at the marina at least here at home down to the lake and back which equates to a solid mile of exercise and pure sniffing pleasure for him.

On my to-do list is the 3D printer build as well as messing with the GoPro camera so I am ready for babies big day to be filmed. I am sure there are many other things that I need to focus on as well and I will take them head on as they surface.

Hopefully you had a great week. I know I did even though it went by at light speed and was full of many unknowns. I am extremely happy with my decision to take on the management opportunity and plan to do what I can to facilitate and be the best for my team possible.
