He He He Hooo

Well good morning!

First thing on the agenda for me today is to visit my new doctor. It's actually a doctor that I used to see a couple years ago but had to stop because my insurance no longer covered that location. That is such a bummer when this happens because it does take time to get to know and trust your family doctor. The doctor I have been seeing in the interim has been great but I have always preferred the one I will see today.

With all of the new health care crap going on who knows how long this will last. My hope is that this doctor does not change locations again and I am once again screwed and that the health care crap from the government does not hose things.

Anyway not a lot of info there I know, just the start of a new day and an early appointment.

Birthing Class

So the birthing class last night was awesome I am happy to report. There is so much to learn about birth and tons of information being given to us that it becomes really hard to take it all in. Even in small doses as we are doing I know we will miss a lot. This is not a bad thing by any means, you can only learn so much in 5 weeks and being that much more prepared is 100% more prepared than the majority of new moms and dads.

At the end of the class the husbands and/or friends and family took part in some of the breathing and relaxation exercises with the moms. There are many more to learn but last nights consisted of the partner holding the wrist tight to simulate a contraction, then the mom would breath for 40 seconds in a pattern as follows; deep breath, let it out slow with a he he he hoooo pattern. The mom is to continue this until they need their next breath.

There are other patterns as well that we learned for when the contractions are getting closer and so on, but the general idea is the same, just the pattern changes to get you through the contractions. They were all great exercises and I think it's already helping Cicely feel better about all of the unknowns that are to come in a couple months.

The tongue in cheek funny parts of the class were the videos and slide shows. Our instructed is aware of this as well obviously and warned us that the footage had not been updated. All content is from the 70's and it showed. From the music to the women giving birth who had the big "70's bush" downstairs - now out of style. Although it's rumored to be coming back.

No matter, the way that it all happens is about 98% the same whether the video was shot in the 70's or something more recent. There are tons of medical improvements as well as little things that have been learned along the way that our teacher pointed out and went over.

All in all I am looking forward to the next classes more than I thought I would. Everyone in the class was "into it" and very mature about being there to learn more about what to expect. That was very much appreciated by us all.

Photo: Just sitting at the doctors office in the "new patient" room waiting for the doctor. It was a nice short wait which is always appreciated.
