Move Like An Egyptian

Wow, as expected the weekend was really nice and relaxing but it flew by really fast. That seems to always be the case though doesn't it? The workweek seems to be twice as long as it should be and days off twice as short.

Progress

While Cicely was at work yesterday I decided that I was going to move the Zoey's brand spanking new, 188.1 pound dresser into the house. Yep my plan was to do so entirely by myself! Am I plain crazy, super hero strong or just a fool you ask? None of those my friend, well maybe a little of each at times but I feel it gives me an edge after all.

Anyway the big question was how am I going to not only get this out of the garage but all the way to the other side of the house? Then over the entryway threshold and into the house. Once done I have to figure out a way to then get it out of its crate and shipping materials finally ending up in the nursery.

Croatian Not Egyptian

So I am a Croatian for the most part, mixed in with other stuff as well but nowhere in there that I know of is Egyptian heritage. Well even so I would have made the Egyptians proud yesterday while moving the dresser.

First I found some pipe I could cut to length, 1" white PVC to be exact. I measured the width of the crate and cut lengths of pipe to match with 2" of overhang on each end.

Next I planned out the orientation that the box would need to be in once at the door and flipped on its side to move into the house. OK got it orientated.

Now it was time for the big show or fail. I opened the garage door, propped the box up just enough to get the first pipe under it on the opposite side I was pushing from. I then gave it a push and with the greatest of ease I moved the crate nearly 2 feet! I could have done so with a hand tied behind my back, although I don't advise it.

I walked around to the front of the crate teetered the crate back and slid the next pipe under, walked behind and pushed another 2 feet until the first pipe spit out at me. I grabbed that one, went around, teetered the box up and put the pipe under. I continued this process for only 30 minutes or so and was up to the threshold of the door. I should mention that even turning the corner on the sidewalk was cake using this method.

The Threshold

OK at the threshold of the front door and time to get this beast into the house. This was something that had me the most worried but honestly once I had the crate firmly against the threshold I walked into the house and put down 1 of my Egyptian moving sticks. Next I flipped the beast towards me and onto the sticks.

Quickly laid down a blanket to protect the floor from the dirty crate. I again rolled the beast toward me and into the house enough to be able to close the front door. Wow that was not as bad as I thought it would be, cool! Now it's time to start uncrating.

The Reveal

Now the test, did I move everything easy enough to not damage it? Will I be able to uncrate it easily?

I am happy to report that all of these tasks went extremely well. They were all very time consuming but smooth none-the-less - awesome!

Next it was the final part of the process which was to get the dresser onto furniture sliders and into the room. Again it went flawless and the dresser was in position and not a scratch on it. More importantly I was not injured either.

Beer Time

All done so now it was time to pop a beer and take a quick break. Once the break was over I went outside and started the tedious process of breaking down the boxes, wood, cardboard, Styrofoam and everything else they use to protect it during shipping.

All-in-all a total success and I won't lie, I was feeling pretty friggin' manly and brilliant about the way I accomplished this seemingly daunting task. All done now though and the last and biggest piece of the puzzle is done.

Baby Doctor

This morning is the first of our every 2 week appointments at the baby doctor. Going in at 8:30 in the morning is awesome other than having to go in at 8:30 in the morning - ha ha.

All is good and we were in and out of the office in under 1/2 hour. Not a bad start to the day at all so hopefully the trend will continue for the remainder of the workday.

Photo: The dresser I have been rabbling about. Does not look like a beast I know, but it is every bit of the 188.1 pounds it can be. Hopefully baby enjoys it for many years.
