So this morning within 15 minutes of being up I received a phone call from my sister that she had a message on her phone this morning when she got up. I guess mom was wandering around her condo complex in the middle of the night and someone called the cops. The police called an ambulance who checked her vitals and loaded her up to take her to Renown hospital for tons of tests and observation for the night.
Kelly (my sister) went over to moms house before heading to the hospital to take them her medicines and some clothes only to find that it looked as though her home had been turned upside down by intruders or something. That luckily was not the case, but it was mom that did the turning upside down of the place. We honestly have no idea why she decided to do this, well we know she did not decide to literally, but the disease she has, vascular dementia is the root cause, probably some sort of paranoia or something.
As of today she is in the hospital still and when my sister went to visit her she was sleeping so she did not want to wake her up, I don't blame her. So I think Cicely and I will take a trip down there and check in on her so she does not feel as though she has been abandoned or something terrible like that. She has enough confusion going on in her head, she needs some rest and familiar faces.
The only real positive that could come out of this is that the doctors and nursing homes will almost have to get off their asses and get the paperwork and stuff done as they should have weeks ago when Kelly first initiated it all. Don't misunderstand, the nursing home is the last place I want my mom but it is the safest place for her and will provide her with the most benefits in the long run. She is totally healthy in every other way so she will most likely live many many more years. Because of this we want those years to be as safe and enjoyable as they can for her under the circumstances. I will probably updated tomorrow a little blurb about how the visit with her went.
Yard Work
So we decided that we better get some yard work done this morning since we were waiting to hear back from Kelly with regards to mom. The idea of quickly raking the leaves in the front yard turned into doing both the front and the back and took us nearly 3.5 hours to complete. It looks really good if I don't say so myself and Cicely kicked some ass out there raking leaves into big piles so I could come along with the yard vacuum and suck them all up to be mulched.
Mulched
Otherwise not much else has been done today. We want to do some more work in what will soon be our combination office and studio so we can get a little closer to having Zoey's room ready to start setting up but I think that may be a little to aggressive for one day. The daylight savings time ending helped us out a lot by giving us the extra hour but at the same time we are friggin' beat from the hours of working out in the yard. You quickly forget the amount of work it is doing leaves and related since we only have to do it once a year.
I think that will be all I have for today. I have to get cleaned up a little bit so we can drive down to the hospital and check on mom. Hopefully we don't make things works with her seeing us though. My sister texted me and the doctor told her that she will be seeing a dietitian as well as a neurologist between today and tomorrow so she will be one busy lady for the next couple days. I know she hates tests just as much as I do, so she is prolly not really happy at the moment.
Photo: One of the small piles of leaves. I managed to not think to take a photo of the big piles until they were already cleaned up and turned into a fine powder by my yard vacuum.
