We are playing the stay at home card for the most part today. We originally had plans to go over to Cicely's parents for dinner and to visit but with mom down in Carson we decided to do our own thing today. That being going down to visit her for a little while then come back home and relax, make dinner and relax some more. Probably curl up on the couch and watch some movies as well. We are not into football at all (blasphemy in the USA huh). Stick and ball sports have never been interesting to me to waste my weekend watching. Then come Monday bang my chest to all of my friends if the team I follow did well. Actually they refer to it as "their team" as though they had something to do with the outcome etc. Whatever though, to each thier own.
They will continue to make fun of my for watching guys "drive in circles" as they say with regards to NASCAR. They simply don't understand it and maybe that is why I don't like football. Although being on the top of your game for 4+ hours at 200 mph like you have to do in racing to me is much more taxing than making a few plays an hour. But who am I to argue. I have actually raced many many years so I am sure that everyone that watches football has done the same right? No actually I seriously doubt it.

Drive Down
So it was a little later start getting down to visit mom but it actually worked out really well. The kitchen was running behind by nearly an hour so they were not served for almost an hour and a half later than usual. I was happy, I was afraid that we had missed having Thanksgiving dinner with her - even though we were not planning to eat, we wanted to be there while she did.
Anyway, we were able to hang out with her for about an hour before they came to get her for lunch. We walked down with her to the dining room and she was given her tray. All the things you would expect for today's holiday dinner were on the menu and on her plate. Turkey, gravy, stuffing, bean casserole and cranberry. Then a nice slice of pumpkin pie with a dollop of whipped cream on top for dessert. The usual juice, water and milk were right there for her as well. The only thing I could not find was the coffee and hot coco that she absolutely loves.
She ate every bit of it and seemed to really enjoy the meal and having us there for conversation. I know that we felt the same and were happy to spend it with her.

So all-in-all the long drive down and back to Carson to visit mom went great. We stayed as long as we were able to which was about 3 hours, about normal for our visits. She was getting sleepy we could tell when back in her room so we wanted her to get her rest and be able to get down to take a shower and that sort of thing before the day was over.
I know tonight according to her calendar they are supposed to have games and nachos. I hope they come and get her for that. I asked them to do so before we left but with so many residents to care for I understand that it's not easy to remember that sort of thing when their highest priority is the residents safety and nutrition. I know mom was looking forward to it but I guess it really just depends on how she feels after dinner tonight.
Our Dinner
So by the time we made it back home it was dark and I have a feeling that most everyone has already had their Thanksgiving feast. Not us, it was time to start making it at 5:00 PM. Well when I say "us" I really mean Cicely because she will not let me in the kitchen to help. I wanted her to take a nap and let me take care of at least prepping and getting the turkey going. Heck it takes 3 hours to cook so there is plenty of time for her to get some rest.
I think she just really enjoys making us dinners like this and to be fair I know that I really like having them made - she is a really good cook, a natural at it - no joke! There are very few things that she has ever made that did not come out awesome and those that may not have were due to the fact that they were extremely difficult recipes she tried to duplicate. Even the bad ones were good but if you ask her she would tell you the exact opposite.
On the menu for us this year will be; turkey breast, cranberry, creamy kale and cauliflower casserole with horseradish and roasted heirloom carrot salad, mashed potatoes, rolls. Then for dessert the choice between peach and cherry pie with homemade whipped cream on top.
Drool
Ok so after listing out the menu for tonight my stomach is growling and my mouth is watering. I cannot wait to have dinner tonight. We have barely eaten anything today and have mostly snacked here and there so yea, I am starved and she must be as well!
That would be my queue to end this entry for today, wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and let your food settle and hang out with family a little before rushing out to trample people tomorrow to save a few bucks on something you don't really need in the first place.
