Greed & Consumption

So I managed to get up today at 5:00 AM for some unknown reason this morning and of course was wide awake as though I had mega sleep or something. Unfortunately did not and was up until midnight surfing around and checking stuff out on the web so 5 hours of Aleppo is going to creep up and bite me at some point today I have a feeling.

Since I was up I figured it was a good time to start catching up on the massive piles of email that has been coming in the past couple of days. Then add that to all of the flippin' Black Friday emails, holy crap are there a ton of those this year!

Consumption Day

So because I was up and ready to blaze a trail for the day I decided to be one of the sheep and see what deals were going on and verify nothing I could not live without. The hobby shop had a deal starting at 5:00 AM as luck would have it so I checked out what was being offer and ended up adding 1 then 2 then 3 things to my cart. OMG I thought, I just bought into this whole thing!

Don't misunderstand I was not just saving a few bucks here. These were RC cars, well trophy tuck and a Rallycross car then one ready to fly beginner airplane. Depending on the item they were $170 to over $200 off the normal price! The real question was - do I really need them though?

Based on this I figured I had dibs on them because they were already in my cart. Hopefully the shop does not timeout items in a cart with a sale like this I thought, but it was a risk I was willing to take. So I just let them marinate in the shopping cart for a little bit and see how I felt in a half hour or so about them.

About fourth five minutes to an hour passed and I was still looking around on the site when I decided that you know what, I think I am going to remove these from my cart and forget about them. I honestly don't need them and I have 3 new RC I have not flown yet! Two helicopters and one micro quad copter. So why do I need to spend a hundred to a couple hundred on something I may drive a few times then put on a shelf?

Based on that training I was proud of my ability to just say no and remove all three of them from my shopping cart. I have looked around a bunch today at the various sales online but do not see myself buying anything. While the deals are mostly pretty dam good I will wait for those things I really want and/or need to spend my money on.

So in my eyes that means another Black Friday down and no deals coming my way in the form of purchased goods. I am ok with that and actually feel proud that I did not buy the stuff only because it was such a good deal. Items I would have otherwise went right past most likely because of the price and because at that price I have other things I would rather have.

I do wish there were some deals on the baby items that we are in need of. That stuff I would not hesitate to lay down cash for. Heck even if it only meant saving $20 bucks or so. We have so much to buy for baby that any savings actually adds up to a big savings in the end. Guess that I had better start looking around and verify there are no deals on some of those items. It's a pain, I don't want to waste an entire day researching on the net. Not a productive way to spend days off!

Dinner

Our Thanksgiving dinner last night was flippin' amazing! Cicely did it once again and managed to cook us a killer Thanksgiving dinner. We ate much later than most do on turkey day but it was actually closer to our usual dinner time anyhow so it worked out great!

Avoiding

So with that it's time to get back into the day and focus on all of the stuff around here that we have to do and want to do. Basically avoiding all of the shopping and sales going on pretty much everywhere today. Plus doing stuff at home is actually much more fun and rewarding to me than shopping like crazy and blowing money on stuff I don't need - cool or not.

Hopefully you managed to get out and avoid the trampling crowds if that was your goal today - to save some money and find some deals. To each their own, you gotta do what makes the most sense for you and your family.

**Update: Ok so we did breakdown and go out and do some shopping. The difference for us is that we had to pay off the dresser for babies room and while there they had a great deal (almost $150 off) on the stroller that we want to get her.

The Pack 'n Play playpen was also on sale so we still have to decide which one to get this week. But yea, we consumed today but for good reason and things that we actually needed and/or had to pay off this month anyhow.

Photo: Even Oggy had some Thanksgiving dinner as he does every year. As you can tell from the photo, he had turkey, mashed potato, little gravy and some cranberry - he was very excited!
