No Time For Slackin'

Up before the sun and farting around for most of the morning, well just before noon anyway. No big deal but I am feeling a little guilty for doing so because I had done that most of yesterday as well - but I was beat, like I had been doing some crazy manual labor all day in the hot sun kind of beat. I was not, so that is odd.

Now today, first thing I get up and have not forgotten that I have so much to do as usual and here I was sitting on the couch, cozy in my favorite blanket with a big cup of coffee next to me. There are not a lot of Sundays that I do this, at least not for 3 or 4 hours so I guess it's ok, just gotta get my ass in gear and get some stuff done once my coffee is empty.

Mom Visit

Our drive down to Carson City was nice yesterday and actually kinda fun - like a quick little road trip, one thing that Cicely and I have always enjoyed doing together. We have had many trips from here to L.A., San Francisco and several other places for various events as well as "just because'. Yesterday although nothing as long as those drives was nice. Plus it was only a couple hours total both ways so it we were not sick of driving and needed fewer snacks.

Anyway, mom was sleeping when we showed up so we ended up waking her which was ok since it was nearing lunch time for her anyhow. She was a little bit upset and confused, more-so than the past few times we have seen her. She did have her room to herself, but I think it was due to her other roommate being too violent for the facility. Generally they will give them a chance and an evaluation but if its not a positive, rehabilitative outlook for that person then they most likely will have to go to a different type of home.

Mom actually had a bunch of bruises on her arm and some cuts as well. I think she was fighting with the lady that was in the room with her before - not good! The lady was combative the day she came in with the paramedics. She did not like to be touched, her blood pressure taken or anything so I am glad she is no longer in moms room.

Anyway, about an hour after we were there Kelly and Dan showed up (sister / brother in-law) which made mom happy to have us all there. The 4 of us actually decided we did not like the way things were laid out and took the opportunity and rearranged her room a little. First by giving her the other bed that was in the room and setting some things up so she would be more comfortable. Her first bed had wheels on it and the crank was messed up so there was no way to lower it off the wheels. Because of this it would constantly move when she would sit on the edge to lay down.

Lunch time came so we went down with mom and hung out while she had her lunch. Looked pretty good for lunch; ham, sweet potatoes and mixed vegetables were on the menu for the day and mom seemed to really like it. Dessert was a little strawberry shortcake with a dollop of whip cream on top. The usual to drink; milk, juice, water and a nice cup of coffee - even though she usually likes some hot cocoa so that was my fault since I got her the coffee. That is ok, she can have cocoa at diner - hopefully she did.

After a couple hours we gave our kisses and said our goodbyes then headed out and began the hour trek back home. Next week we are probably not going down to visit since we will be heading down on Thanksgiving weekend. We are not planning to have Thanksgiving dinner with her even though we could and the facility would feed us. We plan to just visit with her for the morning before we head to Cicely's parents for dinner later in the afternoon.

Garage Storage

So back to Reno, well almost back, I had Cicely get on her phone and put in an order for one more of the large Craftsman cabinets like I have in the garage already - the floor to ceiling kind. As luck would have it, there was one still in stock so we added it to the cart and paid for it. Within about 15 minutes we had a confirmation email and text message from them that it was ready to be picked up. PERFECT timing because we were just down the street from the Sparks facility where you have to pick up the larger items like this.

Once home the goal was to unload the car of all the stuff we bought. Oh I did not mention that I went ahead and bought some more LED BR30 lights to replace those in the kitchen, the last place in the house that we needed to change over to that type - holy crap do they look amazing. So yep everything with the exception of the lights we have that are the little candle type and the ball lights in the bathroom have been converted to LED. It's actually a fairly expensive process to swap them all over  to the LED but we are basically done not - yesterday was another $100+ dollars for 5 of the bulbs but they last for 25+ years so I think its worth every penny. I think in total we have probably spent close to $600 swapping all of the lights in the house as they burn out.

Back to the point I was trying to make. Once home and unloaded the plan was to eat some lunch and then get our butts in gear to get shxt done. Well we ate, then manged to get really tired and took a nap. Woke up, messed around some more on the internet researching 3D printers while Cicely played games on her iPad and we never really got going on the stuff we planned to do.

Today that has to change and we need to get stuff done. We honestly have so friggin' much to do before baby gets here and it just keeps getting put off and we are stacking up more and more to-dos every week as we acquire stuff for baby. Totally our fault and no one else to blame. So yea, I am getting to it as soon as I put a period at the end of this entry.

I need to build the cabinet that I bought so it's not one more thing sitting in a box on the floor constantly teasing me and reminding me that I have things I am behind on. We also picked up a new shower curtain rod and these cool looking, more modern instead of the plastic hooks that hold the curtain. The new ones look so much better and match the guest / Zoey bathroom hardware in other areas like the faucet and towel racks. They are the brushed nickle type rather than a chrome plastic hollow bar and plastic attachment hooks. Nothing wrong with those, they lasted us for years. It was just time to update them to something newer. So yep, something else to do. Just remembered that I need to do the furnace filter as well because I keep getting reminded by NEST that it is time. All easy stuff, just have to start to be able to finish anything right.

With That

I was considering watching the final NASCAR race but don't think that I am going to do so. I am curious if the #48 team, driven by Jimmy Johnson will win his 6th NASCAR title. Once again he is in the lead as of today's race with a decent gap from 2nd place. My driver #14 Tony Stewart has been out most of the second half of the season after breaking his leg in a non-cup race over the summer in a pretty crazy tumbling crash. He has no chance of winning because the fill in driver for him, Mark Marten is currently sitting back around 26th place.

**Update: So it happened once again. The #48 team finished out the 2013 season on top, taking home the championship title. Crazy to think about how much that team as well as Jimmy Johnson has won. There are many teams and drivers that will race their entire career and not win more than a handful of races much less 6 championship titles. Big time congrats to their team on the awesome season. Hopefully next season I will have more time to watch the races - I missed watching them this season but it had to be done so that I could focus on other things.

Anyway, with that I am closing my MacBook Pro and getting outside to get shxt done so I can feel better about it all come Monday morning when I suddenly seem to have all the energy in the world to use for completing projects. Yet I am tired and in no mood to fight traffic and head to the south side of town for work ha ha. It's all part of it and no big deal. Boil it down and it's nothing more than human nature. So with that, I hope you have a great Sunday! Time for me to get busy....
