The plan was a success although I let Cicely sleep in a little extra because I thought she was going to go along with me. By the time I finally got her up she was too exhausted so she stayed home and in bed until about 11 AM. She needs her rest so I don't mind going by myself although it's fun when her and Oggy go.
Nano Flight
So the nano flight was actually a total success for the most part. I was able to get through seven or eight batteries before I switched over to flying the other helicopter. Don't get me wrong I did crash quite a bit as usual and one-time quite a ways away where it took me about 10 minutes to walk to where it was and back, that really sucks when that happens.
But on the bright side at least it was still flyable after each and every crash. That is one of the awesome things about the Blade Nano. They are really strong and when they crash, so long as you kill the throttle, you usually do little to no damage whatsoever.
So 8 flights down with some decent circuits not full circles or anything just back and forth, tail-in and nose-in hovering and that sort of thing. Exactly what I needed to work on and still need to work on.
Once the final battery was dead and my transmitter was beeping at me that it was time to bring it in I knew that it was time to bring out the big helicopter, the 130x.
130x Flight
It was now time for the flight of the 130x and I was excited because I felt as though I was nice and warmed-up from flying the Nano so many times.
Well as usual this was not quite the case. During the first battery I brought it down a couple times hard but luckily no real damage. I managed to do some hovering and a little bit of flying around for the first battery and not too many hard landings. Because of this I felt as though things were looking promising and I still had 3 freshly charged batteries to go. One of which was a brand-new 450 mAh battery that I had just received in the mail last week. I was super excited to try it because you get a little more power and a slightly longer run time.
Saving this new battery for the last flight I plug in another of the standard batteries. I took off and did a little more flying, only about one and a half to 2 minutes of the 4 minute flight time before things got to be not so much fun. Okay I am being dramatic, things were still fun but just got expensive, well not even expensive - my day was done.
Basically it was getting a little windy out there not too bad just a little breezy I guess. The heli had gotten a little bit further away from me then I would have liked so while attempting to bring it back safely to me there was a small gust of wind and I basically brain farted slightly, over corrected and brought it down hard on the right side.
Generally this will not do too much other than potentially break the tail fin. Heck on the Nano it will not even do anything usually in a crash like that other than make the main gear pop down a little. So you adjust it slightly and you are back in the air.
The 130x has bigger parts and is moving and spinning these parts faster. So when it hit it made a pretty good "thud" sound. As I walked over to the crash site it actually did not look like it was in bad shape at all.
I picked it up and upon closer inspection I realized one of the rotors were floppy - not something you want to see. So the short of it is that it ended up breaking one of the grips where it connects to one of the main ball joints on the rotor, fuck!
At that point I knew that my day was done and it was time to pack things in. So that is exactly what I did. Now tonight I need to go onto the hobby store website and order more parts, fun!
Actually it is fun ordering new parts but it would be better if I could just fly more. I think I am going to have to upgrade to some titanium parts and that sort of thing so I break less plastic parts.
Oh I forgot to mention on the first battery I actually broke one of the bars that hold on the canopy. But I was not letting that stop me and I still flew until the bigger crash happened.
This all boils down to me needing to spend more time on my simulator as well. It would probably really help me avoid more of this type of crash filled day. I just don't know if I will switch to another simulator or stick with my Phoenix sim. If I get another it would probably be the Real Flight one. Guess we will see, I mean that is another $179 to do so.
Health
Off to an early doctor appointment in the morning so I hope it's all good news. I did get my lab results back from my procedure a few weeks back and it was all good news on the 4 biopsies they took out of my upper esophagus, stomach and related - whew! It's always nerve racking getting those letters in the mail.
Pregnancy Update
So my beautiful wife has been doing pretty good and is quite the trooper I must say. There has been some annoying morning sickness some days and upset stomach off and on pretty much every day. She has found that drink OMG ginger tea helps he a ton so that has been her drink of choice several times per day since mid last week. I just hope that it continues to work for her. I dont like seeing her like this.
Land That Bird
Ok that is all I have for today. Time to enjoy What is left of this Sunday and get ready for Dexter and Breaking Bad tonight on TV. Going to be some more awesome episodes and I can't wait!
