Already before 8:30 AM we had a slew of texts from my mother-in-law Kay that she had already found a deal on a high chair, a car seat that has 2 bases with it and who knows what else. Too cool that she is so into it. I mean we could loan her our stuff when they kiddo stays with or goes over to visit. I learned long ago a very valuable lesson - you don't tell a grandma what to but her grandchild.
So far we have not found anything that we can't live without. I would love to find some decent tools or even ramps to use on the storage shed entry. Gotta keep looking and see if we find anything good for a great price.
Traffic Jam
One thing I should mention about the annual garage sale. The giant traffic jam getting into the area is prolly the worst thing. It seems that the garage sale has grown in popularity even more than we remembered. Not to mention Hidden Valley only has one way in and one way out for the most part so everyone gets sorta bunched up
By the time we turned off of the main road (McCarren Blvd) and onto Pembroke which heads straight into Hidden Valley it becomes more like LA traffic than Saturday Reno traffic out in a golf community. Super slow and go all the way for 5 miles or so.
Holiday Event
During the holidays this community also has one of the biggest Christmas light displays in the area. We have one in our area in Spanish Springs but it's tiny in comparison.
It gets packed out there for that as well so we usually try to avoid it most years. Then if it's a nasty winter it gets even worse trying to get out there and back in the snow and ice.
Although I think in the coming years we will have to change our tune and go so the kiddo can experience it like we did when we were younger. Things like waiting in line for Easter bunnies and Santa will become routine.
Bargains
So overall we did not see a ton of stuff that we were interested in. Rather than stuff taking up space that sellers wanted to get rid of it was more like dusty, rusty and old broken shxt they were trying to sell for more than it was worth at a garage sale 5 years ago.
Cicely did find some jewelry supplies that she will be able to use. We also managed to find a bunch of baby clothes for newborn size and 0-6 month size.
They are sort of a mix of boys and girls clothes but since we don't yet know what we are having we have to get neutral colors.
Plus if he/she is at home a lot with Cicely at first then it's not a big deal what they are wearing. Really what is important to me is that it's clean and comfortable for them. Otherwise a few stains and .50 cents a piece is no biggie.
We also bought a water for .50 cents and a bucket of seasoned fries from the fire department for 5 friggin' dollars! But I will admit, they were dam good, just not $5 good.
Sales Over
So we are off to Steak n' Shake now to see if the line is not too crazy and to get a shake and some lunch. I am not super hungry because I ate that massive boat of seasoned fries but I know that Cicely is starving and I don't want her to start to get nausea's and a headache.
Guess we will need to start hitting more garage sales in the future to get the kiddo some clothes and stuff. It's a great way to save a grip of cash!
Photo: New coffee I picked up when they were out of Blind Dog. Pretty good Colombian blend!
