152 Annuals

Nice calm morning and looking to be a decent start to the holiday weekend as far as weather is concerned. It was really nice being able to get out of work early yesterday afternoon and run a couple errands and still get home in time to enjoy a few hours of sunshine. We were even able to get Oggy out for a nice full length walk before it started to get too hot out. He was still pretty beat about 1/2 back to the house, but mostly because he has not been getting his walks as much due to the weather. We just need to work with him to help build up his endurance - usually just in time for winter!

Cool New Tool

As mentioned, after work we had some errands to run - one of which was Home Depot to get this new Ryobi lawn edger I have been wanting for a couple months. It has a solid blade and is made specifically for edging so it's much better than using my usual tool, "the weed whacker" to get a nice manicured edge.

Problem was that I was unable to find it locally but to my surprise the Home Depot out by my work carried them. I would think all stores would carry the same stuff, but that is not the case. Luckily a little research online lead me to that store for it. I prolly won't use it until Tuesday when I mow the lawns though.

Now the one negative is that Ryobi decided to use a completely different battery and charger for it. I am not sure why they did this rather than make it part of their One+ series that is common for nearly all of their tools - I was a little disappointed when I realized that. Mostly because if I run out of juice I have to now wait for an hour vs. grabbing one if my many batteries for those tools. Oh well I do still think its going to be a great addition to my yard tool arsenal.

Flowers & More Flowers

While shopping for the edger I decided it would be cool to get Cicely some annuals to plant in the back yard around the tree bases and to my surprise she was all for it, woot! She picked out 3 to 5 varieties and colors and actually exactly enough to fill up the trunk of her Beetle which she thought was really "pretty and so cute" (her words).

What we didn't realize was how many we actually had purchased. When looking at them in the flat there doesn't appear to be as many as there actually are until you begin planting them.

Once home we rattled with Oggy a bit, are some lunch and relaxed before heading out back to plant. Good thing too because it took us just over 2 hours to plant them all - wow, I really had not considered how many we had bought. which actually is fairly typical for me as I tend to get crazy with that sort of thing, especially when it's something for Cizzle.

So 19 plant containers each with 8 individual flowers in the have been successfully planted as of about 6:30 PM yesterday and I am happy to say that they do look absolutely awesome out there around the trees. Cicely planted every single one of them while I assisted with things like root clean up in the area she was planting in, getting the plants out of the carton and so on.

I have wanted her to do this for many years but we just never have for one reason or another. Although now that we have and we see how great it looks with minimal effort I hope we do it every year here on out.

There is something about projects like painting, planting and so on that is extra special. We tend to get into deep conversations about childhood, things we like or whatever comes to mind for hours on end. Surprisingly even after 14 years we still learn a thing or two about one another - how cool is that? Pretty dang cool if you ask me!

Head Out

Alright it's that time again - time to make the most of the day because as always, the days away from the office tend to fly by in no time. I have a lot of stuff I want to do this weekend both for enjoyment / relaxation as well as have-ta'-do's. so until tomorrow, I hope you have a great day as well doing whatever it is you may be up to.
