My succeed or failure will depend on the availability of the conference rooms in the studio. It can be very difficult at times finding an open room to discuss things, have an impromptu meeting or in cases like this, a review that is both mandatory and time bound.
My hope is that by the end of today I will at the very least have 4 of the 1:1 in-person reviews completed. This way I can use the remainder of the day to either write as many of the remaining reviews as I can. On the flip-side if there are available conference rooms I may even try to not only write reviews for the remainder of the day, also go ahead and review with that person to check another one off the list, working towards completion.
I think my biggest problem is that I cannot simply write a sentence or two for the employees. I prefer to break-down the sections and define clear objectives as well as encourage changes to improve upon those things that I feel are lacking. I do not put this entirely in the court of the team member, instead I always offer input, suggestions and observations along with my own willingness to do whatever I can to help them succeed or improve at their job.
This is not something that happens over night and at times with some individuals it seems to never really change, they tend to be hard wired when it comes to being passive, outspoken, introverted and so on. Finding the middle ground is then the only choice and generally the best choice as it can help to incrementally improve their performance. In turn not only providing them with additional tools to handle situations, but strengthening our team as a whole along the way.
Sore
Today I am surprisingly sore from my mountain bike excursion yesterday afternoon. I think it's due to the fact that I had to do so much hiking and not the fact that the mountain biking was extremely difficult.
Sure it was not a walk in the park by any means and at times it was sketchy, steep, rocky, narrow or a combination of all of these! Sure this does in fact make it a lot of fun, although if you are not well versed on your bike and confident it makes for a much longer day in the mountains and in the saddle!
About All
With that, I am going to call this entry done and continue on with my day. Busy or not I need to get through this week and I can then breath easy knowing that the reviews are completed and I don't have to worry about them again for months. Well other than the processes of helping individuals with their goals. This is an ongoing process as it should be and cannot simply be accomplished with two meeting a year.
As a manager or leader of any kind, should you try and do that, all that you end up with is confusion and a lot of surprises. All of which can appear to be out of context because those issues or concerns more times than not, have long been resolved or forgotten.
Photo: This is the cleaner that I bought for my new Oakley sunglasses. I was not sure if it was okay to use or not so I contacted the company. They replied and said that yes, this is in-fact okay to use and one of the only ones that they recommend for my Prizm lenses on my radar lock glasses, cool!
