Sore Legs

I think that tonight will have to be a night off of the bike, a rest night of sorts. I do still plan to go to the gym today and get a little cardio session in as well as strength training and core though. It's really difficult for me to do neither, its a habit I started long ago and I just don't feel like myself if I miss a workout of some kind or another.

On the days that I do though, because of sickness or injuries, maybe a pissed off back muscle or nerve, I will still attempt to take Oggy for a walk so that I get a solid extra mile in at the very least. Plus it's always rewarding taking him for his walks, he loves it and we have really been slacking on them since Zoey arrived. Actually since being pregnant.

Last night I planned to get on the trainer for 30 minutes or 10 miles, whichever came first. I also planned to only cycle in a mellow manner as a bit of a recovery night. Once on the trainer and into my loop I could feel how sore and tired my legs really were from the previous day's cycling. Since Monday I've been pushing fairly hard and it's catching up.

My goal is to do at least 130 miles a week for the next month so I can get just over 1250 kilometers for April. Does not seem like much and big picture it's not, but it does require dedication and a strong will to succeed.

Anyway, once on the bike and into the loop I started to quickly get into the groove. There was great music streaming from Pandora, a lot of cyclist on the island that I train on and of course this all combined makes you push yourself. The competitive side shows through and the next thing you know you are pushing hundreds of watts more than originally planned and your legs are burning at only a couple miles in.

That was the story for me anyway. I would push hard, realize I was in it for the spin and mileage, not to break records, slow my pace and next thing you know I was again reminding myself to slow down, grab an easy gear and just spin out some miles.

All said and done my 30 minute, 10 mile or whichever came first ride ended up at over 17 miles and just over an hour. Yea this is typical once on the bike, I am not unhappy with the effort at all, though I was and still am spent.

I think I only need around 50 or 60 miles this week to complete the goal of 130 for the week so a day off should not be a big deal. Plus if there is not any good cardio equipment available when I get to the gym today maybe I can do a few extra miles on the janky trainer in the gym. That one is impossible to be competitive on so I know I will have a truly mellow recovery ride and still earn a few miles for the day! I guess we will see how it goes and play it by ear from there.

Otherwise, recovery for me. Then on Friday and this weekend ill be back in the saddle!

Photo: This is the crazy carpet at the bowling center we went to on Tuesday. When they turn the lights off and turn the black lights on it glows really cool. The kids that come to bowl love it! Admittedly, I think it's really cool as well.
