Zoey; Shots, Round 1

So as the title of the post clearly states, today is the day, well one of the days - that Cicely and I have been dreading. We have to take Zoey in to see the pediatrician and get her first round of shots. I am not looking forward to it because Zoey has no idea what is going on. All that she knows is that we are taking her somewhere and she will be hurt while there.

The worst part is that I cant go this morning. I have to get to work earlier than the appointment and that really sucks. This means that Cicely has to be the bad guy all on her own. I told her to just tell Zoey that it's my fault, I will take the blame this round. I hear that the next round, once she is around 12 to 15 months are actually one of the worst because they understand more what is going on. Cicely has the OK to take the day off today if necessary if Zoey has a reaction for some reason or gets a fever and so on from the shots. I sure hope none of the above happen and she is able to forget all about the experience by this evening.

**Update: Zoey had her shots, 4 or 5 total, and a couple in each leg - sealed with a little round heart patterned band-aid. I guess she was all smiles at the office, smiling at all the girls and just having a good time in general. Suddenly she felt the prick of the needles and her face changed to a look that would break your heart and scare you at the same time along with a scream. Within a minute or so after she was done getting the last one she was dry eyed and back to normal surprisingly. Babble talking to the nurses and doctor and being her usual self. What a trooper and a good spirited girl.

According to the doctor she is doing great as well. Her height is perfect, she is considered "tall and lean". We don't want or need to start giving her cereal for a couple months still. She does not need it and it will only constipate her at this time. Again, more great news about her overall health. I just hope she does not have a reaction the next couple days from the shots. I guess a few of our friends at work that have recently had kids went through this. Day one they were OK, day 2 they were tired and slept a lot then day three and maybe even four they were super cranky and irritable.

Not only for my own well being but more for hers I hope that she does not go through that. Kiddo's go through so much as it is I don't want her dealing with anything we introduce while trying to protect her from disease an sickness.

Anyway, super proud of you kiddo!

GIANT

As you know, yesterday was mothers day and I did not specifically get Cicely anything because, well, she honestly did not want anything. We buy each other stuff all year long and to make a point to get something on a particular day because Hallmark says we should is kinda crazy. At least that has always been the way we have looked at the majority of holidays. Of course this year we have to change our tune a little bit because we don't want to have Zoey not experience them.

Yesterday while tooling around on the internet before heading down to Carson to visit mom I went to the bike shops website that I bought my Kuat rack from last week to see if they had any of the Garmin bike computers that I am looking for. They do not carry them, but as luck would have it, they were open yesterday and were having some great deals on mountain bikes for mothers day. What? A sale on bikes and Cicely is "in need" of one so we can ride together.

Yea if you have not guessed it already I bought her a really nice mountain bike. It's not as crazy technical as mine is but its a really nice bike. She rode several and we ended up getting her a 27.5 bike vs. a 29'r. It's the GIANT Tempt 5 in the black and purple with white color scheme for the front shocks and the seat. I upgraded the rims and tires to tubeless for only $60 and I think it's a worthwhile investment. I also made sure to get her a really nice helmet that she picked out.

All said and done we only spent around $800 on her entire setup, which is less than 1/3 of what my basic setup was before I added any upgrades or modifications. The nice thing is that she has a front suspension, but the rear is a hard tail so she will be able to pull a trailer. That will be great when we are ready to start taking Zoey with us around the lake and things like that.

**Update: I was supposed to pick up Cicely's bike today after work but they are missing a part for the tubeless rim and tire kit so I will have to wait and pick it up tomorrow or later this week after work. No big deal, it's not like we need it right this minute or anything anyhow. It's just cool that they called to let us know and want to do a job that is not done half ass. Now that she has a bike I guess I better start researching the trailers for Zoey and Oggy now!

Photo: Cicely's new bike I bought her for mothers day. It's the Giant Tempt 5 and I upgraded her rims / tires to the tubeless setup so we don't have to worry about flats with all of the thorns and tribulus terrestris around our area (more commonly known as "goatheads"). I think Cicely will get a lot of good years out of the bike and towing around Zoey will be awesome for them both.
