Agile / Scrum Bootcamp; Day 2

Alright so based on the start of the day that I had yesterday, today's entry will be much shorter and less interesting as well I imagine. Not to mention it's only 5 AM and I am partially asleep at the wheel, well keyboard, as I write this entry so please pardon any errors.

The Drive

Yesterday I purposely left the house over an hour early so I would be able to effortlessly get to work while dealing with the traffic and without any crazy rush, rush - drive like a mad man stress so I could walk into my training with a smile, relax for a moment and dive in when it began. Not the case....

My first realization that things were not going to go very well was when I was only a few blocks, maybe 1/4 of a mile from my driveway and there was already lines of traffic. Ah, I figured this was just the last of the moms and/or kids getting out of the neighborhood to get up to school just across the main highway down the street. Nope, this was the start of the drive from hell. OK I am being a little dramatic, but it did not feel like any Sunday casual drive I had ever been a part of.

This traffic situation never improved, only got worse the further I was away from my driveway. Watching the clock, considering my lane choices methodically as though it was a game of chess was still not good enough. No matter what I would hit a wall of traffic that was not easily passable.

For lack of lost interest in the post I will make a long story drive short by telling you that it never got any better, just worse or worse in a different way. Meaning shorter green lights, someone farting around on their phone not going as the light turn green making me miss my turn and so on.

I finally rolled flew into the parking lot like a bat out of hell, tires screeching to a stop into the first parking space that caught my eye. Glanced at the clock and it was now 2 minutes 'til 8 AM. Knowing that it takes up to 6 minutes to walk from the parking lot to my cube, then set my stuff down and get to the training room would be another 3 to 6 minutes I was in a full sprint to the door.

Once inside I did not stop sprinting, running through cube isle like a mouse in a maze trying to get to the cheese sprinting all the way to my cube, throwing my backpack in and again sprinting off to the training room. Inside, heart still racing, I scurried to find my seat, sat down and glanced up at the clock, still catching my breath - 8:01, dammit, what a morning!

The Class

After the crazy start to the day I am happy to report that the class was well worth the crazy morning drive. I felt as though the drive never really stopped because of the extremely fast pace of the class but it's meant to be that way. Not to mention we are compressing a 3 day class into 2 days.

Today will be more of the same, but without the crazy commute if I can avoid it by leaving 1 1/2 hours early this time. Then tomorrow it's more of the same but up at UNR this time for one of my elective classes in the management program.

For now I need to get my ass out the door and on my way to training. I hope your day was a little calmer, if not I can totally relate and feel your pain!

Today's Drive

So I will say that today's drive was 100% better than yesterday. I left the house only 10 minutes earlier than I did yesterday morning but made it to work nearly 40 minutes sooner! Yea the math really does not fit but you wont hear me complaining.

I made it, had some time to settle in before the day got under way, wrap up a few things on my to-do list, and roll into class with no pressure. That is a much better way to start a day of training!
