Movie Update, Lawn Mower

Well as you know if you read the posts from the past few days, yesterday my studio team and I went to the IMAX theater to watch Godzilla in 3D. It was a fun outing and worth the time away from work for sure.

The movie itself was pretty good but nothing I would consider "amazing". The use of the 3D effects were limited which was a nice change but at the same time unexpected. Generally you have things coming out at the audience and so on, there was none of that. A little unfortunate actually because what a prime movie to do so.

When you have these giant dinosaur type creatures throwing cars, smashing buildings and so on you would expect a few to come out into the audience, nope. They mostly used the 3D to create depth rather than effects like that. Good and bad depending on what you prefer in 3D, myself, I prefer things coming out of the screen so long as it's not overdone.

The theater is very nice, clean and well managed. My only gripe is that the seats in the IMAX theater are not very comfortable. I prefer the seats that recline in the Deluxe theater 100x over. As crazy as it probably sounds, I actually have a bit of a sore neck and back after sitting in one for 123 minutes. They do recline back ever so slightly but you have to constantly push back to do so. I image after a movie you would have nothing but sore legs if you tried to do that the entire time to relax.

Next there is the 3D goggles they give you to wear. Yea they are huge like goggles not like most 3D cinema glasses you find everywhere else. While not a big deal initially they do become very uncomfortable quickly. They are heavy, they pinch behind your ears and they have this big seam of plastic in the middle above the rim of your nose that not only leaves you with a "I've been at a 3D movie" mark between your eyes but is uncomfortable as well.

It appears they wash and reuse the glasses as well which is great, but they don't seem to wash them as well as they should be. Mine were rather gunky from the moment I grabbed them.

EGO 56 Volt Lawn Mower

So yesterday after the movie I went over to Home Depot and checked out the EGO 56 Volt lawn mower in person. I have watched so many different reviews on the dam thing as well as videos of it being used and so on that I could not resist and finally pulled the trigger. I decided to also open up a card with them, something I would usually not do, but the offer was 10% off / 12 months no interest. How can you resist either of those offers? I know that I cant, and did not!

Sure the mower with the extended warranty (something I usually would not buy but on something battery powered and new I figured it was well worth the $80) ended up costing just under $620 out the door. Not bad for such new technology and if it works as well as it has in all of the YouTube videos that I have seen and reviews I have read then I will be loving it for a long time. My only wish is that the spare 56 Volt batteries were a little less expensive. To have a spare you are looking at $199 per battery unless you go with the 40 Volt one, which I would not.

One other cool thing besides the fact that the mower folds up really nice and small is that it has LED headlights that you can turn on if you happen to be mowing and it's getting dark outside. I know most people would say, when in  the heck would that ever been necessary. Trust me, it happens all the time in my area, especially as the seasons are starting to change. If I get home from work and have to mow the lawn it can be fairly dark before I am completely done so this will be nice. The only concern I really have is that you are not supposed to mow in any type of wet condition and at times I do not have much of a choice so I will have to plan around that.

Today the mower will be put together and tomorrow once I am back from my mountain bike ride I plan to try it out in the backyard first. If it will mow the entire back yard on one charge I will be stoked, otherwise I will be a little bit bummed to be 100% honest. The charge does only take 30 minutes to fully recharge but if I had to do that 2 or 3 times per mowing that might get to be a little bit of a pain in the ass.

It does have a 90 day return policy so if things just don't work out I will take it back and continue on with a gas powered one until the electric ones get more powerful and the battery prices come down so I can have spares on hand. Anyway, more on that tomorrow more than likely once I give it a try and see how she cuts.

MTB

Monday I am planning to go to the south side of town, down toward work, and meet up with a friend to go for a mountain bike ride. I guess there is a fairly mellow area that has some great scenery and is a great ride even though not anything crazy - something I need. I am going for one in the morning that is supposed to be fairly mellow as well but a great ride. So long as that one does not tear me up too bad I will go on the ride Sunday as well.

Sundown

Time for me to call it a complete entry and enjoy more of the day, well evening now. It has been a really nice day - both relaxing and fun spending time with Zoey, Cicely and Oggy. I look forward to a couple more days just like today before heading back to work on Monday. Well school as well, it starts up for me once again in June so I cant forget about that. At least it is getting closer and closer to being done. I think after the one I am registering for in June I will only have 4 more classes before I am done with both of the programs, super happy about that!

Although I am thinking that there are a couple more classes that I want to take after these are all done. There are some legal classes as well as a few computer classes like Microsoft Excel that I need to brush up on now that I am in management. I have worked entirely in graphics applications for the past 20+ years and only very little in things like Word, Excel and related so I have some brushing up to do! All in time of course, I could just play with them a ton on my own but I want to do a couple classes first - I think that will get me going on the right track.

OK as promised, enough outta me for one day. I hope your day was as good as mine was and if not, just think you still have a couple more days to try and make it all that much better! Until tomorrow enjoy the rest of the evening!

Photo: These are the stock photo's I grabbed from the manufacturers website of my new lawn mower. The thing is pretty bad ass, folds up super small for storage between uses and seasonal storage. I can't wait to try it out tomorrow, I only hope it's as good as I expect it to be. In the past the cordless electric mowers I have owned could not handle my thick lawn.
