Cinco de Mayo

So as you can tell from the title of the post today is in fact the Mexican-American holiday, Cinco De Mayo. It seems that a huge percentage of Americans have now jumped onto this holiday much like a few others to be able to have an excuse to drink and eat foods from that country or their traditional meals as most do. I could be wrong but I don't think Mexico for example celebrates the 4th of July with us as an excuse to light off fireworks and drink cheap American beer, or do they? I understand that we have traditionally celebrated their independence but is that still the reason?

I am all for celebrations and to have good food and drink a few cold beers, margaritas and that sort of thing but I also think that we as Americans tend to water down holidays of our own and of others more often than not. Heck look at what we have done with things like Christmas in the U.S. Anymore we start talking and prepping for Christmas for example, in October! Anyway, enough on this rant, if you are celebrating Cinco de Mayo today then cool I hope its a great day. I know we are having some events at work and I am sure there are many going to party tonight - enjoy, be safe!

Salsa Contest

At work we are having our annual salsa competition. Normally we do not specifically set it up so that it falls on Cinco de Mayo but this year I think someone either intentionally did just that or we forgot about it and this was as good of a chance as any to have it - either way I think it's a great event that one of my bosses of days gone by had started and has not only a great turnout but ends up being a lot of fun as well for everyone.

I had a feeling that I was going to have to be a judge this year because usually that is what they do. Management does the barbeque duties at the picnics, hides the Easter eggs for the studios Easter egg hunts and that sort of thing. Thankfully I was not asked to take part, although I would have and happily but with my weak ass tongue I would have not be the most qualified judge unless solely based on taste not heat.

We usually do an annual bake-off as well. I am not sure if that is going to happen any longer either but if so that would be even worse to be a judge in - all of that good food not only tempting us all day but being required to be eaten if you are a judge - ack!

No matter, I do think that it is an awesome event that we have kept around and everyone seems to have a total blast during it. I know it gets everyone up and out of their seats as well, talking to one another and taking a break from the normal day-to-day. That is worth the efforts of setting up the event more than anything! Good luck to the participants and may the best salsa win!

First Day Of Daycare

Today was Zoey's first day of daycare at The Child Garden. She did awesome and had no problems what-so-ever being there without Cicely like we were worried she might.

She drank her bottles, took some naps and had a lot to say when Cicely went to visit her at 3:00 to see how she was doing so far.

We are super proud of her and hope that she not only has a lot of fun there but learns a lot as well. Great job baby girl, we are so proud of you!
