Up and out of bed early once again, this sure is becoming a habit! Today I was out of the house so that I could try and beat all of the local hikers and backpackers to the trail I wanted to ride today. From what I have been reading its a really popular trail and can get fairly busy at times during the nicer days and months.
Although I did not get out of the house as early as I wanted to I am hoping that it will not be full of people and not fun. If I get to the trail-head and it is jam packed with cars I may use that as my signal to go somewhere else today. My plan is to make today a day of nice riding and no coughing up crap for 2 hours after the ride, having a sore chest and tasting blood in my mouth! More on all of this later - I gotta get going!
Awesome MTB Ride
OK so today was nothing short of an awesome ride to say the least. I have not had that much fun on a bike without a motor in a very long time. The trail-head was super easy to find although I did have to circle back a couple times because I passed the parking area the first time and by the time I turned around to get one they were taken. Thankfully by the time I had driven up the mountain and parked in the spaces above, I looked back down and there were people leaving - score!
The ride was just under 10 miles with a lot of up and down, switchbacks and so on the entire way. Thankfully the area is fairly wide, about the width of 3 or 4 single tracks so when I came up on people hiking, dogs, or runners I was able to simply let them know I was there by dinging my bear bell or yelling "left side", or "right side" and it all worked out really good.
Anyway, I am supposed to go tomorrow as well with a friend from work to another spot up on Mount Rose but I have to see if I can fix something that went wrong with my bike. For some reason the rear brake is sticking and so the wheel will not rotate properly. I am not sure if it just needs an adjustment or if there is something stuck in there that I did not see earlier.
There is some new rattle as well that popped up today, who knows maybe the two are related. I will have to see what is up with it and go from there. The rattle was pretty annoying to be honest so hopefully I can locate it. More of a squeaky sound that just keeps happening as I ride. Fingers are crossed for luck that I will be able to go tomorrow, I have to get out into the garage and see if I can figure out what the heck is going on - if not, I will have to postpone the ride for a week.

With That
As mentioned, it's already pushing 6:30 PM so I want to get my ass outside and see what I can find out with the bike and hopefully fix or adjust, lubricate or whatever. I am determined to get it fixed so we will see how it goes. Oh I did get the new lawn mower setup today and planned to use it as well but I don't know if I will have enough daylight to do so or not once I am done messing with the bike. Maybe I will take it for a quick spin and see how it does in the back yard before I work on the bike. That way I can rabble about it's performance or hopefully not, "lack of" in tomorrows post.
Until then, I hope you have been enjoying your weekend, I know that I have and I would like many, many more days to play around. Tomorrow I think Zoey and I are going to enjoy a little time in her pool she got from Grandma Kay for Easter, I think she will really enjoy that!
Photo: The area they refer to as "the hole in the wall" at the end of the trail that I rode today. Rather than create an elaborate way for the water of the steamboat ditch to get from point A to point B they drilled through the mountain and it worked great. A fun place to hike, bike or run!
