Today started out as one of those days where I knew it was going to be a crazy day based on the contents of my Gmail and Outlook calendars. Why did I book myself up back to back pretty much the entire day? Oh wait, it wasn't me - it was everyone else - ahhh!
Meeting One
Small group meeting put on by our studio director with little to no information as to what it was going to be about exactly. Those are always "interesting" to walk into.
Come to find out it was pretty cool news. All of us involved are now part of a team that will be over seeing games in such a way that we can make final calls or judgements based on the available resources, what value and ROI the ideas or changes bring to the table and so forth. It will be weighted and "judged" in a sense as well when it comes time for MBO's for each of us and that sort of thing which is actually a good thing. Helps to keep people excited about the process and accountable.
Meeting Two
This was a short meeting, better known as my one-on-one with my direct manager. Luckily I had talked to him earlier in the week so we did not have anything new to discuss. Nice when that happens because it gives me a free 1/2 hour of time to work that would have otherwise been spent in a meeting - sounds weird I know, but it's good that we dont just have the meetings the full amount of time simply because we are scheduled for it.
Meeting Three
This one consisted of a long discussion to work out some kinks in our current hand-off between groups. Everything does actually work very well in our massive gaming development environment, but there is always room for improvement and this was one of them. I think all sides will need to have a little give and take but in the long run it will be beneficial to all groups. I apologize that this is a bit cryptic and vague, makes for not-so-interesting reading I would imagine, but I really cant go into detail when it comes to this sort of work related stuff. For me, as in the past, its more of a journal type reference to happenings in my day-to-day. Wanna buy me a beer, I will be happy to sit down and bore you about the details in person.
Second Half
So I am writing this while having a quick lunch before I head down to the gym for my daily cardio and strength training session. It will have to be a quick one again today, although not as quick as yesterday which was only 35 minutes, which was just enough to get my full 30 minute cardio in and a cool down before changing to come back to do a phone interview with an applicant.
Once done I will jump into the remainder of the afternoon and attend more meetings while attempting to actually get some work done on my assigned game. A whirlwind of a day that's for sure, just as my calendar had shown this morning.
Breathe
It's now time to relax for a moment or two - take a couple deep breaths and enjoy the rest of my lunch (white rice, green beans and boneless rib-eye steak today) before jumping back into the deep-end of the afternoon.
Mostly because after work my day does not get any easier as I have to mow and edge the lawns tonight. Doing yard work after a long day at the studio is actually relaxing because it's just me, the mower and the lawn. Everything is at my pace and I will usually try to sneak in a beer as a reward for all of the hard work. Cant do that in cube life.

Photo: Little bowls, jars and trays of temptation lay waiting in every meeting I attend! No worries though, I have no problem avoiding them simply for the germ factor alone.
