Non-Stop-Day

Holy crap what a go-go-go day this was. I barely have anytime to write this post to be honest because I want to sit back and have some dinner, watch a little TV (new show on tonight I have been wanting to watch) and possibly do a few flights on the simulator. Probably too much to hope for this evening seeing how late it is already, but gotta start somewhere.

Garage Project

So the garage project was where I spent the majority of my weekend, probably close to 16 hours of it to be more accurate. When looking at it you would never guess that it would take so long, when in reality it does and in fact, did take that long.

Before doing anything there is a lot of planning involved to make 100% certain that you are putting the versa-track pieces up in such a way that they meet the minimum lengths suggested by the manufacturer. Then you have to figure out how you will not only cut them to those lengths without wasting a few of them, but how that will also play into the overall length of cabinets or whatever you may be using them for.

Once this part was done, all tracks were cut, holes marked, pilot holes drilled in both the wall and stud as well as the track along with countersinks in the track that I did to make everything nice and flush then you are well on your way - sorta.

From this point you can begin to build the cabinets, there are approximately 11 pieces to each and a large bag of hardware consisting of washers, nuts, 2 types of bolts and finally screws for hinges and locking slot mechanisms. The process of building them takes anywhere from 45 minutes to just over an hour per cabinet. This does not include the occasional need to square things up a little better and that sort of thing which means more like 1 hour, 18 minutes taking my time per cabinet.

All said and done though I will be the first to admit that it looks really friggin' good if I don't say so myself. This project has been a little expensive, and fairly time consuming but is turning out great. I do still need to paint the garage but I am trying to get the bigger things that I can do out of the way first. Taking the cabinets down to paint will be a cinch and much more preferred by me to simply have to re-hang them once the painting is done. I think at that point I will add in a couple screws per cabinet as well just to help keep them from having any upward movement as this could potentially cause them to come up and off of the track - not a good thing!

I am just stoked that it is this far along and that it's all working out so good! I mean I did change up one thing which forced me to have to run down to Sears today and get one more track and cut it a little bit longer, but this gave me the chance to pick up a few tools that I have been wanting to get as well as get a new screwdriver set to replace the weird mix of quality and non-quality ones that I have. Even the good ones I have need replacing because they had gotten wet and sat in my toolbox so they have this odd smell to them and always have - sounds kinda funny I am sure, but it's not something I want when I open up my tools for use. I wont throw them away or anything, they will just be a backup set that I don't worry about as much. Sucks really because my sister bought that screwdriver set for me many many years ago.

Last night Cicely and I decided to rent a movie since there was not really anything we wanted to watch that we had on Netflix so we decided to rent something off of Amazon. We ended up choosing The Life of Pi. If you have not seen it, I would recommend it to you. It was a really good movie and at times it lets you assume you will be able to predict what is going to happen, more times that not you will find that you will be wrong.

Anyway, without going into detail, it was a really good movie and a tear-jerker for Cicely as well - which again tells me that it was worth the $5.99 rental to see the HD version. Plus because I am a PRIME member (I think, maybe just for the rental) Amazon gave me a credit as well toward MP3's and some other items - I though that was really cool.

4:20

Oh almost forgot, watched the new show on CNN with Morgan Spurlock called Inside Man. The premise is him going into some of the medical marijuana dispensaries to work, investigate, get a medical marijuana card and so on. Next time he will be doing the same thing with firearm stores so I am looking forward to that as well.

Tonight's episode was pretty good although I felt that they kept saying "weed", "pot"and that sort of thing so it knocked the professionalism of the businesses they were checking into down a notch. Surely not intentional but just gives that stereotype more momentum. Good show so far!

Otherwise

Not much else today really. Before going down to get the new tools and additional piece of track I did manage to fly my Nano for 8 battery packs which was a blast. I am finding that I do desperately need to find somewhere bigger to fly though. It's far too easy to have near misses in the backyard where there are so many obstacles. I was pretty bummed / pissed because on the first or second battery pack I had a pretty hard crash that must have popped off the brand-friggn'-new carbon fiber tail and I did not notice right away so it's pretty much gone for good. Had I seen it pop off it would have been hard as well so I just have to chalk it up as a dumb mistake and forget about trying to find that needle in the haystack better known as the backyard lawn.

Needless to say when I came back in I ordered a few vertical tail-fin spares off of two different sellers on eBay so those should be here toward the end of the week. I have one more carbon one left but it's really cool looking on the heli so I don't want to risk it popping off. Plus it still flies "pretty good" without it, but you get a little bit of a wiggle in the tail. Although with the wind today it would have been hard to determine if it was the wind or the fin.

Wrap It

I think that will wrap it up. This entry ended up being much longer than I had thought it would be. It's getting late, nearly 11:00 PM and with it being a workday tomorrow I need to get my ass to bed soon. I have to start the day off interviewing someone so that should be interesting. Hopefully we find our new hire sooner than later - the interviews are tiring mentally because its a big decision.

Hopefully your weekend was everything you expected or more! I had a nice one and I think Cicely did as well because she managed to get a lot of rest and work on her acrylic dress she is making for the upcoming fashion show.
