Today was planned to be a relatively simple day of watching some TV, the NASCAR race in Fontana, California and not much more. Unfortunately my neighbor returned the stop/waste valve tool that I loaned him to turn on his irrigation system and so I figured, what the heck I might as well turn on ours real fast and be done with it for the summer.
This "real quick" task turned into a project of replacing a few of the drip lines and valves, adding splicers to fix areas that developed cracks over the winter and a plethora of other to-do's I was not wanting to tackle today.
Home Depot
I was able to accomplish the majority of the fixes with spare parts that I keep on hand but like most home related fixes this one required a trip to Home Depot. The Rain Bird controller I have for the front system is around 13 years old and finally pooped out on me sometime since last fall when I turned the system off for the winter months.
My plan is to get something basic for now and start researching the cool new models that can be controlled over the Internet via a Pc or an app from a smart phone like my iPhone 5 for example. This is right up my alley as anyone that knows me, knows.
These models ate still relatively new and are a but more expensive but really awesome as far as features. Not to mention the fact I would not need to update my system settings manually between the 4 season we have in my area.
More on that another time though. Maybe once I invest in one, hook it up and see how well it works I will report back. at the same time f it's deemed overkill and more of a "geeky gotta have" item I have no shame in writing that as well. Might save someone a few bucks if they have a gadget addiction like me.
Enjoy
Off to take care of the errands which means the end of this entry. If I was to get lucky and find a controller at Home Depot that was smart phone enabled and wireless I may go that route today but I seriously doubt they are popular enough right now for them to stock.
Enjoy your Sunday! Hopefully you had a little more rest and relaxation than I managed to have, no ones fault but mine of course.
Haircut on the agenda later today and then back into a busy busy workweek. Well after getting my messed up cavity repaired at the dentist in the morning.
