Technical Toddler v1.0

Well it's finally Friday and I had originally planned to take today off of work. The goal was to get a few more things done at home, possibly go for a bike ride as well as even the chance of us going up to Mount Rose, well the meadows just past there, to do a hike along the trail that is up there.

Cubed

The plans really did not work out this time as the stars were not quite aligned for us with regards to our work schedules, upcoming deadlines for Cicely or issues, better known as end of the week fires, that needed my attention to help work with other managers to extinguish.

On top of this, we probably would have still opted to not go today even if we were off work. The weather is supposed to be thunderstorms and rain like yesterday afternoon. This leads to nothing but wind, huge downpours, sometimes hail and any of these you do not want to be out in, especially with your 14 month old daughter. Granted, she won't melt or know any different, might actually be fun for her, kids are kinda weird like that after all.

Technically Sound Kiddo

Today is a big day for Zoey and she has no idea why even if we were to tell her. I ordered her an Amazon Fire HD 'kids' edition to start learning on. A lot of parents would probably scoff at the idea of getting a 14 month old toddler a $209 gadget that also requires a $3/ month subscription to get her all the kid friendly content that she can eat.

I am on the other side of the fence because I think that she will be more advanced as far as that goes and we do not plan to let her use it all waking hours of the day either. The kids version has great parental controls so you can schedule the amount of time they are allowed to play games or watch shows.

It also has settings that allow you to put the device in a mode where they need to read or do a particular activity for a set amount of time before they are then rewarded with time to play a game, watch a favorite show or something.

I personally think it's a great idea and a great way to get her more ingrained and used to what her world is going to be like as she gets older. I don't want her to be a technical couch potato, I want her to go outside and see the world and experience things.

At the same time it's important and will be even more for her generation to understand how to use technology, it's pretty much everywhere now and will only continue to advance. The more she knows now, the better I think she will be later in school and in life.

Beyond That

Basically the weekend is here after today and to start things off on the right foot I think we're going to cut out of work a little early. Hopefully around 3:00 or 3:30 if things work out as planned.

I was going to take the day off as mentioned but because of other things I need to take care of I was not able to so cutting out early will be the second best thing. At times it's even better because we are already up and out of the house.

When we are off it's far too easy for me to start messing around on the internet researching things, watching videos or looking for places to go ride and worse, finding ways to spend money! For Cicely it's bad as well because she is more than happy spending a day in bed or just lounging around the house watching old movies or those that she's seen many times before.

Either way it's going to be a great day so long as I do my part to make it so. Nice weather, ugly weather, the day will come and go so I plan to enjoy it either way. I hope your day goes well and leads into a weekend that refreshes you for another brand spanking week soon after.

Photo: Snapped a quick photo of the front lawn today before leaving work. It's looking pretty good so far this year considering the hot then cold off and on cycles. I think the extra rainfall has been a big help as well. Still have and always will have areas that are in need of attention, overall it's not bad this year.

This photo I snapped once we were on Pyramid Highway. The massive amount of white above Mount Rose are clouds ready to get blown over for today's afternoon thunderstorms and rain. The iPhone camera doesn't do it justice, they are huge clumps!
