Received the email notification last night that my new Apple Watch is on its way. While this is good news I still had some bad ones. They need an adult to be home or for me to assign someone that will be home, like a neighbor, to sign for it this time. Typically with Apple they allow you to leave a signed note and a location to leave the package, not this time for some reason so we are going to need to be there.
To accomplish this I had to setup an account with FedEx. This allows me to do a few things that I otherwise would not be able to do. Interestingly enough, one of those being the ability to change the delivery type or location of packages that are in route.
So I took the time to setup an account which was honestly not the most intuitive process, it made sense, but they had some oddities in there that were required and a bit of a pain in the ass to get correct because they had so many rules around the password, user-name and related necessary items.
Stooooop!
So after setting up the account I had to pay a $5 fee to FedEx to schedule the time that I needed the package to be delivered. The only option that worked for me was a 5:00 to 8:00. Thinking that if I managed to get out of work by 4:00 (reason behind the truncated day) that I could get home and we could wait for them to show up.
My guess was that they'd be at the house at 7:59 or something and there was no way in hell that they'd be there anywhere close to 5:00. Well if I were a betting man I would have lost my shirt on that one. As we were driving home I received an alert that the security cameras had noticed movement and reported it.
I told Cicely that I'd almost bet money it was Oggy jumping up and barking because FedEx rang the doorbell or knocked. She was like 'maybe but I doubt it'. I dunno I said, I bet it was them and we flipping missed them and I wasted $5 at the same time.

Well back up a few miles when we were deciding which way to go home I suggested another route we don't always take but it 'seemed' shorter at times so what the hell right!?
Well what do you know? As we came around a corner, nearly home I see a FedEx truck coming our way and ask Cicely to flash the headlights and wave her hand out the window. She did and the truck stopped. We asked 'did you just attempt a delivery at such-and-such address? She replied that yes, in fact she did and asked us to verify the address, which we did. Everything matched up, she said to meet her around the corner and sign for it.
We followed her, got the package and obviously signed for it. She was on her way, we were on ours, heading home and no longer worried about missing the FedEx delivery to get my replacement watch. How crazy is that!? What are the chances that would happen too? I guess my technical spidey senses kicked in and that's why I chose the route I did for Cicely to take.
Lights Out
With that, I think it's more than enough excitement for one day, a busy one at that. Thankfully it ended as great as it began. Not much more a person can ask for after all.
Photo: Here is a photo of the back of my Apple Watch. See the crack and the chip on it? Still no real idea how it happened but happy I have a brand spanking new one to continue on with. Thanks Apple for being so awesome! It's partially why I returned the Fire HD today and bought Zoey a brand new gold iPad Mini! More on that tomorrow though.
