Beat Up Fingers & 104°

The title for today's post reads much more dramatic than the weekend, mostly yesterday, really was in reality although with the amount of things that kept going a little sideways it certainly made me want to rethink what I wanted to mess with and check off of my to-do list.

104° Temperature

First and most importantly is the temperature issue that came up around noon, maybe 1:00 yesterday afternoon. I was out getting ready to go far a bike ride when Cicely came out into the garage to let me know that Zoey was running a high temperature and wanted to get my opinion on whether or not to give her a little Motrin to try and help it break.

I too was on the fence because once you give it to them you are stuck for the next six hours not being able to give them something else. Thankfully the Motrin generally works right away but it's still a little nerve racking that it may not. Anyway, so instead of immediately giving her that, Cicely gave her a nice cool bath and kept a cool rag on her head once out while they laid in the recliner chair for a little while with the cool air from the A/C blowing down on them.

Zoey's temperature did drop a little but not enough. She was getting upset and crying a little from not feeling well and who could blame her? Problem is, this made the temperature spike all the way up to the 104° mark which is not somewhere we want to be so we don't mess around with it. She gave her the minimum dose of the Motrin and went back and laid down, putting the cool rag on her head.

Within minutes the fever broke and Zoey was being more like her usual bubbly self. She was actually not that much different while she had the fever although it's mostly her faking it to act normal and we know that she does not feel 100%.

We are still not entirely sure if it's teething or something else that was bothering her and causing the fever. I am thinking that it was teething simply because her cheeks were on fire, I mean hot enough to cook something on. Plus her gums were white and puffy and one of her teachers made a comment last week that it looked as though she'd be getting more teeth soon. The strange thing is that a co-worker that has a little girl just a tad older than Zoey, maybe a week, texted me today that she would be late because of her daughter having nearly the same thing.

Sure it could be a bug or it could be the fact that they are so close in age that they are going through the same things around the same times. She said that her daughters temperature never got above 102° so that is good news. Zoey's probably only hit 104° for a very short time, but it was there for a blip in the radar so we count it.

As of this morning she is good-to-go and when we dropped her off at school she was very happy and ready to go in and see everyone, check out her favorite toys in the classroom and possibly head in and take a short nap with her friends before getting on with her day to do things like snack-time, lunch and activities like reading, playing outside, story-time and so on.

We are happy that she is back to normal, it's always such a scary thing to deal with fevers and for us, being new parents, it's only the beginning of what's to come I'd imagine! When she gets her bumps and bruises now it's a new type of scary that's for sure.

Fingers

So this is a short one in comparison and not really that big of a deal of course. I managed in under 30 minutes to bang up my fingers yesterday really good. First on my left had, I was doing something stupid and trying to hammer in a roofing nail that was above my head I gently placed the hammer on my finger, which was on the nail to identify the location. I then whacked it, though my swing had changed just a tad so instead I mostly whacked my pointer finger which now has a grey nasty looking tip on it because of the impact.

Next I had to put this new gutter drain screen in the downspout to avoid getting a lot of stuff down in the French drains that would then need to be unclogged at some point. It states right on the packaging that the thing is sharp and to handle with care. Well I always wear gloves so this should not be an issue for me. Of course, this time I decided that because I was in a hurry I would forgo the gloves and just climb the ladder and install it 'real fast'.

As you have probably guessed this lead to me slicing open the top of at least one of my fingers, this time on my right hand, requiring a band-aid and some ointment once the job was done.

Anyway, I have some other bruises and such that came about yesterday and then I even decided to do some electrical work as well as climb up really high to replace batteries in smoke detectors. Thankfully all of that went down without any problems - onward I say!

Photo: The photo doesn't do the color justice, this is the new purse that Cizzle bought yesterday. I don't know anything about purses, it looks like a nice one? The reason behind the photo is the color, wow!, this purse is a brilliant bright pink! I would not expect anything less for Cizzle.
