Memorial & Towel Day

So today is Monday as everyone knows and it's also a holiday. Today is memorial day so most people are off work or off of school so they can celebrate the day or pay their respects to someone that has fought in previous wars or are currently in the military.

On the flip-side it's unfortunate that so many people see it as nothing more than a three day weekend and a chance to go out and party more or head out to the lake and go camping or look for sales at their local stores that they frequent.

I am not trying to be all high and mighty or anything of that nature because I obviously did not go to any parades or do anything above and beyond for today in memory of those that have fought for our freedom's or otherwise.

Either way I guess as long as people do what they want to do on this day and there are people that go both to the celebrations as well as those that do their own thing then it is what it is and what else can you do about it.

Towel Day

Today is also known as "Towel Day" because of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Today is the day that every true fan, or those that feel they are more of a true fan than you or I, wear a towel on their head in tribute to the story.

I am not going to be wearing my towel or keeping one with me "just in case", as the Hitchhikers Guide recommends. Instead I'm going to focus on the most important two words from the books and remember that if and when things get bad whatever you do "Don't Panic".

Cycling

Around 11 o'clock this morning I decided to start getting ready to go for a spin this afternoon. I got dressed and when I went to get my water bottles I looked outside and the sky was dark gray and it was obvious that something was headed this way.

This is not good I thought, as I now had to decide whether or not I was going to go for my ride or stay home and try to get things done before the rain came.

I took Cicely's advice and said hell with it and went ahead and went for my ride. About 10 miles into it it started to rain a little bit so I turned and went down another way to try to circle back or at least start to circle back and avoid the storm clouds.

About 2 miles down the road I had turned into to begin heading back it started to rain on me again so I knew that it was in my best interest to flip around and make a U-turn as soon as I could. This way, at the very least the wind would be behind me and help to give me a little extra push to get me home faster.

Once I was closer to home I noticed that it was not doing anything out here so I went ahead and went for a few more miles so I could get a good ride in. All said and done I ended up with just under 22 miles for the day so that was not too bad considering the weather.

Once back home it was decent outside and the storm clouds were still about an hour or an hour and a half away so I decided to start doing the yard work and see if I could get it done before the rain came. As luck would have it I pretty much finished up the last little bit of the mowing of the lawn when the rain started coming down the hardest. I had to rush so the backyard is not perfect but it looks pretty good and should be alright for a week until I can do the yard again.

It's just crazy how much this rain makes the grass grow. Not only is the grass growing extremely fast but there are tons of mushrooms popping up as well from the added moisture. It's just something that happens in this area because the soil is so dense that the water does not soak in, instead, it sits on top of the soil after a little bit sleeps in and it makes for the perfect breeding ground for mushrooms.

Missed Party

While I was finishing up my stuff so I silly and Zoey went out to Cicely's parents house for some dinner and to hang out for a little while. Today is the day that they are celebrating Cicely's step mom's birthday and I wish I could have went. Unfortunately, I have a lot of other stuff to do and I will barely get the majority of the stuff done as it is. The last thing I wanted to do was head out to their house only to feel like I was rushing Cicely to leave the entire time we were there.

I hope that everyone understands and do not think that I did not want to go out there or I do not care or something because I do care. They are not like that but I just feel bad that I was not able to go out and say hi to everyone. It's okay though, I know they really want to see Zoey anyhow so it works out perfect. I can't say that I blame them one bit I would be in exactly the same boat.

Raining

So it's been raining pretty good for about a half an hour or 45 minutes. I finished up everything outside as good as I could so now it's time to take a quick shower and eat something. Then it's onto working on other things before the next thing you know we have to go to bed and start the work week tomorrow.

Weekends go by so fast whether they are two days or three and even sometimes when there are four days they fly by. I really want to go down and see my mom soon as well and it just has not been in the cards because of all the stuff we have been doing. Maybe next weekend we can? I don't know but I would like to see her and have her and Zoey visit each other as well. I wish so bad they could know each better. Mom and Zoey would have gotten along so well I just know it!

Anyway, as mentioned, that's about all I have for today so I'm going to dive back into what's left of my weekend and go from there happy memorial day and happy towel day as well.

Photo: Just a little throwback to the day being Towel Day. Why not, everyone is putting up or posting their U.S. Flags so there is no need for me to as well.
