Changes For Collaboration

Today is one of those days that it's not fun to be in management. Thankfully it has nothing to do with people losing their jobs, major shifts in the company as we had back in 2009, or otherwise.

Today the change is more focused around the processes and procedures that we follow as a team in my department. I have identified some issues that are getting out of control and I want to put a stop to them right now. In turn getting everyone on the same page and headed in the same direction.

There will most definitely be a few or at least 1 or 2 that are unhappy with the decision. Others may not know enough yet to care one way or the other and then there will be those that are happy with the choice and continue as usual. No matter the direction it's up to me to make the call and I am planning to do just that. I want everyone to come to work knowing what they need to be doing and how they need to be doing it.

Showing up, having uncertainty or fear that comes from it makes work life that much less enjoyable for everyone involved and at all levels. It does not stop there either, it creates confusion at the leadership level as well and makes it difficult for us to be on the same page as the individual contributors on each team. This causes more confusion, top down, and is never positive.

Yes I'm being intentionally vague because of the nature of the business and our processes, procedures, licensing and so on. Not doing so would not increase the importance of putting ink to paper around this topic anyway. I just needed to get it out there, help think about it some more and move forward while doing so. It's always interesting to see how simply writing about something can really get the gears turning.

Defending A Team

On another note, today I need to step in and help to defend a few members of my team that are essentially being thrown under the bus and for no good reason, I mean more times than not is there ever a good reason to do so? To me it usually boils down to a lack of understanding by those doing the throwing.

In practice a few questions can usually solve many of the issues up front as well as breed the necessary collaboration required to keep teams on the same page, working towards the same goals. Playing both sides of the field or trying to blame others for your own shortcomings is not the solution, I won't stand for it.

Otherwise

Not much else to rabble about today. The week is almost over and the three day weekend is just around the corner, I am looking forward to I no matter the weather we are given. Although nice weather would be preferred so we can get out with Zoey or even Zoey and Oggy as we did last night after work.

It was a blast too! We put Zoey in her tricycle stroller and Oggy hooked up to his leash to take a walk down to the end of the Main Street and back. Even though it's just under a mile round trip it's the perfect distance for them both to get fresh air and have some fun with a change of the usual scenery. I look forward to taking Zoey in her bike trailer simply based on the amount of fun she has in the tricycle!

Photo: So I did not have a photo for today as the day was pretty much a blur because of how busy I was and many of the tings I had to take care of throughout.
