Toys
I should have known that going to the bike shop to get a helmet for Zoey and to just 'look around' would cost me some money above and beyond the price of a toddler helmet.
Well it did cost me more than the price of a helmet, a lot more actually and at least for a good reason. I went ahead and test rode a couple bikes and decided against a hard-tail mountain bike because of the added weight and expense of it.
Instead I went ahead and test rode a basic Trek bike that is made for commuting. On the suggestion of the owner I am glad that I did because it's a really smooth riding bike and pulls the trailer with ease. The bike was nearly $200 or $250 less and I won't need any adapters to hook up the trailer like I would have with my mountain bike or even a hard-tail.

Maiden Voyage
Even though it was late I was still determined to go for a ride. Both Cicely and Zoey were up for it as well so I hurried and got everything together which was not small task. First I had to build the bike trailer as it was taken apart for transportation and storage after we bought it. Next I had to set up the saddle and the bike hitch mount on the new bike so I could pull Zoey in her trailer. Finally I had to get the tires filled up on Cicely's bike, the trailer as well as do a couple adjustments to my new bike so I could track our rides and related.
All said and done we still left the house with a decent amount of daylight. We did end up heading back in the dark, although it had only been dark for a few minutes, maybe ten minutes at the most so it was not bad. Being on the multi-use trail / sidewalk path and not the street made it totally safe as well. Had we needed to use the street to get out and back, we would not have went as far.
The ride was a total success and a lot of fun for everyone. Zoey loved sitting back there playing and talking as well as watching things zip by. When we would hit bumps or rub up against bushes all I would hear coming from behind was 'whooooaa', then look back to see a ear to ear smile which of course made me smile.
Another Ride
Tonight we are planning to go for another ride as soon as I eat a snack. I just got back less than a couple hours ago from a 3+ hour bike ride and 2k+ feet of climbing. The route I took was mostly new to me and one I've been wanting to do for a long time. It was not as difficult as I thought it would be although it was not easy either. It was windy so that made it more difficult no matter and it was one of the hottest days so far that I have been cycling.
Anyway, that is about it for today. I need to kick back for a few minutes and have some more water and a snack to get fueled up for my next cycling adventure with the family. These are much easier for me of course because I can just chill and enjoy the ride. I mean I do the same when on my road or mountain bike, its just that these are a different kind of 'chill'.
Tomorrow I plan to do another spin on my bike and hopefully get a decent amount of climbing in. I need around 2k more feet I think to hit my goal of 6k meters of elevation for the month of May. I think I can hit it, I just need to focus on that tomorrow depending on how far away I am from the goal and not focus as much on the overall miles. No big deal, I will simply be saying 'shut-up legs' much more often than usual!
Photo: Here is the new bike I picked up yesterday after work. Figured that I needed something better to pull Zoey around in her trailer. Awesome bike for it actually, super happy with the purchase.
