Last night Cicely and I ended up managing to both fall asleep really early for a Friday night. Between the long week, the long week the week before as well as everyone being sick it must have really worn us out. I think the last time we looked at the clock it was only 9:30 or 10:00 at the latest. For us this is crazy early, at times even on a weeknight.
I was up again at around 4:00 AM to turn off all of the lights in the house and get a snack because I was starving from not having any dinner last night. There was not much food to grab a hold of or leftovers so I slammed 2 fruit cups of diced peaches and one fruit cup of mandarin oranges. It does not sound like much but it was really good and hit the spot just right.
Once was done with my snack it was time to sit on the computer for a few minutes until I got tired which only took a few minutes and it was back to bed until this morning at 8:45 AM.
Breakfast With The Girls
Because the day was little more than pouring-down rain off and on there was not a whole lot I could do outside that I wanted to. Because of this I decided that it was the perfect opportunity for Cicely, Zoey and I to go out to breakfast. Normally we'd go somewhere more like we usually do, maybe Grateful Gardens or Squeeze-In but today I wanted to do something different.
Instead I figured that it would be a lot of fun to go to one of the casinos and have buffet for breakfast instead. This way we would be able to get Zoey all sorts of different things that she could try and would otherwise not be able to have all at once for breakfast.
Even though the food is not as good as it would be if we went to one of the places that we normally do, it was still decent and hit the spot good enough. As anticipated and planned we were able to let Zoey try tons of stuff too. She had everything from pancakes and French toast to crackers with jelly. Next we tried fruits like watermelon, honeydew, cantaloupe and strawberries. I went back and got her some mashed potatoes and a scoop of macaroni and cheese as well. She loved it all and had a blast.
To finish things off I made her a nice small cone with both chocolate and vanilla ice cream mixed together in the cone. She did pretty good eating it but did not fully understand the concept of holding it upright so it does not drop all over. Plus she liked eating the bottom of the cone so this of course led to leaks.
No matter and as mentioned she had a great time I think and so did we. I think Cicely would have liked something different for her breakfast, she is particular about breakfast and that is okay, it's her favorite meal!
REI Trip
So after we were done eating we headed down to REI because I wanted to get a backpack to carry Zoey in in case we go hiking once in awhile, I just hope my back can handle it okay. I did test the backpack with her in it at the store and it did not feel too bad at all. That is a good sign and so hopefully on uneven terrain, hot weather and stuff it will be a good choice and we can have fun instead of being in pain or sore from carrying her.
Cicely tried it on as well and was able to walk around good with her in it so that is cool, we can trade-off carrying her if we need to when out on a trail or if we go camping and decide to do some hiking around the area for example.
Next I of course managed to find a nice bright cycling jersey that I needed to get because it was on sale and it was a good fit. I have more than enough jerseys blur it's always nice to have the bright ones on certain routes that I know have more traffic or fewer bike lanes.
Last I've been wanting to get a handheld GPS for a while. I am not exactly sure how much I will use the thing because I don't do much hiking on my own, maybe I will have to start I dunno. Spending upwards of $600 on what is essentially a toy in my case to hike around with seems like a lot and it is. Problem is I only want to do it once if possible and then have it for a long time.
The one that I really wanted was nearly $120 more but it was just too big when I saw it in person. If I would use it in the car and stuff too it would be a good choice, I won't do that so having the extra touch screen space could be cool but the weight of the device and overall size may just turn out to be this big bulky thing I'm needing to always carry around with me.
Anyway, it was a really fun day and we are headed back home as I write this part of the entry. It's raining like crazy and the sky is a curtain of black in every direction. This tells me it's a great day to stay inside and play with Zoey, take naps and maybe watch shows on Netflix!
Photo: Not the best photo, the best I could get of this cool, bright chunk of rainbow on the way home. There was one other that was much larger but it was too light and the camera could not pick it up. I've always liked seeing rainbows, they make me feel like a kid every time I spot one!
