Rain, Door Repairs, 3D Printing, Walkers

Yep since Friday before work all the way until now as I type this entry at 8:30 PM Sunday night it is still raining outside and even harder than it has so far. We are lucky that it's not cold enough out otherwise it would be one hell of a snowstorm right now. Actually that may be cool besides the fact I would have to shovel the driveway or snow blow it.

On the plus side if it was deep enough then I would just say heck with it and we would call into work as a snow day instead of driving in and taking the chance of it taking us hours to get to work or worse, getting into an accident.

Tomorrow will be bad enough with all of the crappy California transplant drivers that are afraid of anything other than a dry calm day when they are on the road. Even the wind last week caused them to freak out it seemed.

Sliding Glass Door

Since the day we moved into this house our sliding glass door has been a piece of shxt. The thing is nearly impossible to open and you have to really put your back into it to open or close it and even more in the winter when things swell up from the cold temperatures.

Today I had enough while watching Cicely try to go out it with Zoey in her arms to play in the grass for a few minutes while there was a break in the rain for a few.

Basically I had to raise the entire thing up by adjusting the rollers underneath of it, then continue back and forth front and back adjustments until the door was level as possible. Once that was done I had to lube the tracks and continue to open and close the door to work the lube in. Each time rolling out more dirt and crap in the vinyl track that needed to be vacuumed up, wiped down then repeat the process another ten or fifteen times.

Once done and rolling good the adjustment of the latch was way off and that meant I had to screw with it a bunch to get it to catch and lock securely. This took drilling, adjusting spacers and pulling out the Dremel tool to elongate two of the bracket holes so that I would be able to tweak the latch just right.

While I was doing this Cicely was taking care of the other side of the door that has an air leak during the windy days as well as any day for that matter only worse on windy days. I bought a seal over a year ago for it and we just now installed the thing. We had blue painters tape on there for the time being and it was on there really bad from the sun baking it.

Cicely did a great job getting the old goo off and cleaning it up so it was ready for the new weather stripping piece. She ended up cutting it shorter than she should have. She is not as much of a firm believer as I am in the measure twice cut once rule. I think it should still work okay, better than the tape for sure. If not we will have to order another one. Not a big deal other than $13 plus shipping down the drain. On the bright side they have white now instead of black so that is cool.

Walking Dead

Last thing for now is that tonight is the season kickoff of The Walking Dead and I am stoked! This is supposed to be another great season and jump right in with a lot of shxt going down. Guess we will see soon enough, I for one am looking forward to it being on again.

I think tonight is also the season premiere of the spinoff show from Breaking Bad called Better Call Saul. We are not planning to watch it. I guess if we hear a lot of great reviews then we may have to jump into it.

Cycling Or Lack Of

I was only able to ride on the trainer this weekend and in total get in just over 12 miles which is 20 or so shy of where I wanted to be by today. I could have went out in the wind on Saturday but chose not to. Same with today, I could have went really early and got in some miles today although I am thinking I would have gotten rained on for sure.

This coming weekend is supposed to be nicer so we will see how close the weather guessers are on their predictions. If it's in fact warm, little to no wind and warm - meaning over 40° would be fine with me, then I am going to attempt to get in a 100km ride so that I can earn my shirt for the month of February. It's a cool jersey and it also matches my new bike really good.

Speaking of my new bike I am not sure if I mentioned it yesterday or not? There is a strike on the west coast ports which means that my new bike is sitting in a shipping container waiting to be put on a truck and driven here. Super frustrating to say the least bit totally not the fault of the bike shop.

The shop is hoping it will only be a slowdown in shipping not a full blown strike. Otherwise there is no telling how long it will be delayed. Could be days, weeks or even months! I am glad it's not summertime at least because that's when I ride the most. More on that later as I get more info.

Dinner Time

With that it's dinner time and I am hungry! Time for turkey burgers, quinoa and I am not really sure what else. Well other than a nice ice cream cone for me after we eat. I try to only have them a few times a week and it's tough. I like the original Drumstick cones that are dipped in chocolate- yum! Okay time to go eat, I want to get full, let my food settle and make sure I saved room to have my ice cream cone dessert!

Photo: Quick photo of the 3D print that I did today. It's a thrust bearing and it actually works really good. I could have printed it high resolution and it would be much smoother rolling, maybe next time I will set it up for high resolution! Bad part when doing that is it will take upwards to 14 hours instead of only taking a little over 4 to print this and a heart setting for Cicely to test.
