Life Is A Progress Indicator: Nice Out, Not For Snowboarding

This morning, first thing as I was waking up the guys on the radio were babbling about Burning Man, fucking Burning Man and it's not even the end of February and they are talking about it. Initially I was under the impression that there must be something going on with the event, maybe it was cancelled or who knows what - no matter waking up to chatter surrounding dirty hippies out in the desert is annoying.

I guess the reason behind it is that today or tomorrow is the official kickoff to start buying the tickets for the event. I had no idea how much they cost but based on what they said I believe the least expensive tickets are $380 maybe $390.

When you think about it, it's not that bad for a week long event, though in reality it's still too much for me to drive that far only to hang out with a bunch of smelly hippies out in the dust bowl, last year it was a swimming pool because of crazy rain storms that dumped for days before the start of the event so they had to postpone it for safety reasons.

I think last year was also the year that a 19 year old girl was killed when she was run over by a school bus. I assume that the bus was the camper for the owner. I don't recall the specifics, only the event that took place.

Anyway enough about that topic. I could whine for a while for no good reason other than I think it's a waste and has become so corporate compared to where it all started and the reason behind its existence in the first place. Part of me wishes I would have went back then to experience what it was meant to be vs. what it has become if I were to go out there now.

Weather Is Awesome

Unfortunately I am stuck inside today as most people are that have computer jobs or work in corporate cube farms. Nope, I am not complaining about my job one bit, I am very happy with it although I would like to resolve a few things that are constant struggles and continue to pop up anywhere from weekly, monthly or yearly depending on the subject matter, those involved and their past experience or lack of experience.

Okay, back on topic, the weather is supposed to get all the way up to 70° or higher today, 70°!! I honestly cannot say that I remember the last time it was so friggin' warm in the middle of February. We have years that it's not that warm in April for that matter when Spring officially kicks into gear.

Weekend Cycling Weather

By this weekend the weather guessers predict that the temperatures, the high temperatures that-is, will drop down into the colder 40° weather patterns. A little on the cold side for cycling, though I will almost certainly still go. My goal was to start going much earlier in the morning so I have more time with Zoey and Cicely on the weekends, if I do that it's almost certainly going to be winter clothes for the entire ride, then strip off what I can as it warms up, if it does enough.

If not I will at least jump on the trainer and put in miles to try and keep my fitness up to speed the best I can. I'm finding that the trainer does help me to burn calories as well as keep my cycling legs going somewhat although it does not seem to be anywhere close to a 1:1 workout to help improve my outdoor rides.

I would have assumed, and actually did, that it would put me leaps and bounds ahead. In a weird way it does nothing of the sort and I actually felt like complete crap the first ride out for the first 30 minutes. My legs were crap and my breathing was heavy - something I did not expect to have happen.

Diaper Sticker

Zoey has been in this weird trend of wanting to taste everything. She will try to grab loose hair off of Oggy and taste it. She will put her mouth on the carpet and anything else that is new to her to try out. So we've been really watching to be sure she does not grab something small that she is going to choke on.

At daycare they have these little stickers that they put on the clipboards for the kids. This month they are hearts and about the size of a dime or less. I guess Zoey must have found one on the floor or stuck to a toy possibly and invested it.

While changing out her diaper this morning after the morning poo session, Cicely had the usual 'gift' in there with a little surprise - one of the heart shaped stickers that she must have swallowed. Yikes, scary stuff, thankfully nothing more than a sticker, made out of paper. Even stranger is that it still looked new. As though it had just been stuck then unstuck. Makes me wonder if it fell off something and into the diaper appearing to have came through her or if it did go through her system.

Hopefully that was not causing her some kind of distress in her stomach or system. I would not think so because it's soft and small, never know! I am sure it will not be the last odd thing she swallows or puts into an ear, nose, mouth or down the drain. My goal is that we can always catch them before it happens or make sure she is helped ASAP if it does happen.

Focus

That is where I will end it for today. I am a little on the sleepy side this morning. I was up until after 1:00AM. Zoey woke up just after 11:30PM freaking out a little as though she had a bad dream. I was unable to calm her down initially so I had to go out to the garage with her and get the bigger guns - momma!

Cicely has the magical touch and was able to get Zoey into a great, comfortable position almost right away. Still fussy and fight it a little she was definitely happier than the positions I tried.

Once I was schooled on how it was done by a professional, I grabbed Zoey and rocked her, humming and singing until she fell back asleep. The transition into her bed was a little scary - the last thing I wanted to do was wake her up and start over again. Mostly for her, I don't care if I had to stay up all night to comfort her.

In the end she stayed asleep once I transferred her to the crib and slept until I woke her up this morning to come out with me and have her breakfast. She did not eat much breakfast, so either she had too big of a dinner and her waking up was due to a stomach ache, not a bad dream and that transitioned over to her being less hungry today.

Photos: After a little research it looks as though the weather is only supposed to hit a high of 66° today, oh crap wait - cool, it's supposed to hit 68°, op, op wait correction it's going to hit 70° - ah well WTF weather guessers?!? You'd think weather guessers would get data from the same source so they are all on the same page at the very least.

I realize it's only a very small amount of discrepancy per, it's just funny and proves true with most things. Your information is only as reliable as the source. Either way, a very nice day going off of any of the three guesses below. I'm not going to complain - well other than the fact I am not out cycling and enjoying the warm day! It looks like Saturday should be okay for a spin, Sunday on the other hand I may have to prep for rain - boo!
