From 70° To 70mph

The week started out with temperatures in the low 60's all the way up to the low 70's mid to late in the week. As of today things have taken a 360°turn and we are in for nothing close to that. Actually the weather may still be nice and in the 60's, the wind will be the problem.

According to the news this morning the wind will blow all day between 20 and 40 miles per hour with gusts averaging 40 to 70+ miles an hour. I hate the wind with a passion. Always have, always will! I think that even if I were to take up a sport or hobby that required the wind it would still manage to annoy me.

Windsurfing would be cool as would kite-boarding or anything else that is better with wind although my guess is that you want predictable wind for the most part, not blowing in all directions with the occasional gusts thrown in.

Even if I needed it and enjoyed playing on a sailboat, kite-board, windsurfer or other wind powered 'thing' I would hate it by the time I made it back to my car to pack up, getting blown around, shxt not cooperating and so on. Then once back home dealing with it again.

Yea I know, "kinda going off the deep end over a little wind aren't ya'?". Yep I will be the first to admit this is what happens to me on windy days. Driving into work will be an adventure as well. Dodging crap that falls out of truck beds, tumble weeds blowing into traffic, dust storms swirling by as they sand your car and windshield leaving behind chips and scuffs.

Then there are things like fences that blow down leading to dogs getting out. Most end up found and returned to their families, others wander away never to be found though hopefully adopted by someone. Others unfortunately become coyote food while others get hit by cars. It sucks every way that you look at it.

Then there are things like trees being uprooted because we have such hard ground in the area the trees have a shallow root system, this causes all sorts of problems as well from home owners associations requiring you to have a tree and to put another in its place, to trees damaging cars and other property.

The wind likes to tear shingles off of roofs and send them soaring through the air to join forces with all of the garbage that lazy people did not fully stow away or secure. Plastic shopping bags flying overhead mimicking seagulls over the ocean. Unfortunately more times than not ending up in the ocean. Adding to one of the plastic bag islands or getting stuck on marine wildlife that may ultimately die due to lack of mobility.

Now you can hopefully better understand just a few of the reasons I hate the wind. Both personal and those things that come after the wind has long gone, yet never would have been an issue had the wind never came in the first place.

On the flip-side I have to ask myself if most humans were not so fucking lazy would as much of this be a problem in the first place? More than likely it would not. As mentioned at the beginning of my post, if people would take mere seconds to secure their garbage or cover up their cans and latch the lid of garbage cans, put recycle bins indoors and so one.

They could also take a few minutes and secure any loose boards on their properties fence with the nail - a simple nail is all it takes to keep your dog inside the yard on a windy day more times than not, it does not need to be perfect, only secure until you can fix it correctly, it's your responsibility to do so. Little things like this could solve many of the big things I've mentioned so far.

Anyway, I could go on all day rabbling about my hate for the wind or complaining about human nature and straight-up pure laziness.

Because it's Friday and I want to enjoy the day that has already been nice and positive as well I'm going to leave this topic right here for today. Hopefully your Friday is great, if not or you are dealing with wind just as I am - hang in there it will blow over soon - pun intended!

Photo: This is a screen grab from a video on the local news. I think its from a Sparks patrol car's on-board video camera. The still does not do justice to the amount of wind, debris and tumbleweed that is blowing around out there today!
