So not only did I get up nice and early this morning (Cicely too BTW) but I managed to get a lot of stuff done that I have been wanting to do. First off I made both Oggy and I some eggs for breakfast, yea this does not count as something I have been wanting to do since I do this almost everyday of the week but it was my start - and 2 cups of strong coffee as well of course.
I followed this up with a little surfing on the internet and general checking out what was going on in the social web-a-sphere arena. Not much actually to my surprise. I figured with the warm weather people would be getting into all sorts of trouble - not the case.
Once breakfast and the surfing was done I could not help but play a couple rounds of Mario Kart 7 on my new 2DS. I was good about only playing the couple rounds I promised and immediately put the device back into its case after - awesome game (of course) and great hardware, I like it a lot more than the 3D version.
Yard
Once outside I managed to get everything prepped on the side yard for the guys to come out tomorrow and do the concrete work. I cleaned up all of the wood that has been out there for a really long time, the stakes for holding up young trees that have never been used but have sat over there next to the house for over 13 years and even cut up some of the bigger wooden stake poles that were supposed to be used for the same thing - holding up the baby trees.
Next it was time to dig up the stone from the sidewalk that Cicely and I had poured the second year we lived in the house. This was the one that we did on the very last day and put our initials in and the year we made it, 2001. It's sort of sad to know that the sidewalk we put so much time into will be hidden away after tomorrow, but it has served us well and we learned a lot and had a lot of fun when building it.
Next it was time to take the supports down that I have set up to hold the fence up because our neighbor continues to promise he is going to fix it, yea right, my ass! I think we should have just had the dam thing fixed a couple years ago like I wanted to for a few hundred bucks and been done with it but I gave them the chance and opportunity to do the work and save some money - shame on me for thinking someone would actually follow through.
Anyway, that is all cleaned up and the side yard is ready for the guys to come and do the work. While out there Cicely came out and raked the leaves while I helped her bag them up. That was fun although as I knew would happen, she was pissed when she looked out only to see that they had fallen in those areas again ha ha. Normally we would not rake so soon but I was trying to get a good clear zone for the guys to add in the drainage areas tomorrow. I hope they get it all done, I have been waiting for this stuff to be finished for years.
Back into the garage I managed to get the majority of the workbenches cleared off and things put into the cabinets and drawers that they belong. I also FINALLY managed to hang up the last shelf and fill it up with the things directly related to firearm cleaning as planned. Then it was onto hanging up the rack for the snowboards to be up off the floor and not in the shed taking up space. It's crazy, you put stuff off for weeks or months and come to find that it takes only minutes to do.
Last but not least I turned off the irrigation system and flushed it out for the season. I know we are going to have some warmer weather the next week or so but I think the lawn will be ok not getting the extra water. Most of my neighbors have winterized theirs as well so hopefully its good. This was the time that I did it last year as well according to the calendar.
Heck I even managed to pull my awesome Honda 2000 generator out of the storage shed and run it for an hour or so to get some fuel and fuel stabilizer through the carburetor and the engine. It has not been run much for over a year so I was a little worried if it would even start. Well like most things made by Honda it fired right up after only 5 or 6 pulls of the cord - friggin' awesome!
All-in-all a very successful day in my book and I am ready for just one more extra day off tomorrow. I still have a ton to get done before baby gets here but slowly and surely we are getting there and it feels nice to be making progress.
Winterize
Time to winterize this entry and call it a day / weekend / week and move on. Tonight is going to be a night of great TV because The Walking Dead is on and from what I am hearing from others the season has as expected, ramped up quick and is already awesome - so stoked to hear that. Whats-more is that we are watching this "new to us" show called Awake.
It's about this guy that was in a car accident with his wife and son in the car and they were both killed, well depending on how you look at it anyway. Everyday that he wakes up he is in the opposite world, one world where his wife is dead and his son is alive and another world where his son is dead and his wife if alive. He is a detective and has to solve cases throughout all of this that seem to almost carry over between the two lives he is apparently leading.
We think that it is all about a parallel universe or something but it has not hinted to anything of the sort other than the obvious premise.
Anyway, for today that will do it - hope you had a great weekend and are enjoying the nice warm fall weather if you happen to live in the Reno area as I do. It has been awesome and actually perfect weather to go fly my helicopters, if only I had more time on the simulator and was not worried about crashing them so much! I did purchase 2 more, well one quad and one smaller Align 100x to mess around with. Yea I know, I know I still have my new Align 450L Dominator that is in the box. No worries they will all get their airtime as I progress, no rush!
Photo: Photo of Cicely's VW Beetle's temperature gauges. I was messing with filters and effects in this new photo application I downloaded on my iPhone. I thought it looked kinda cool and even a little bit TRON like.
