Wow, I did not realize how many photos and video that we actually have. The funny part is that we are not really very good about taking the time to take a lot of either so I can only imagine what it is like for those that do! I am sure that once we have baby in our lives, then it will become overwhelming with photos and video. That is why I have started moving mostly all of mine off of my local and iPhone and into the cloud using SmugMug.
It actually took me a long time to figure out what service I wanted to use. They all have many pro's and con's and honestly SmugMug still is not the 100% bulletproof solution for me. But it's a very reasonably priced service and gives you a ton of freedom to manipulate my photo website. I can do anything from simply store stuff there all the way up to selling my photos depending on the month-to-month subscription that I choose to use.
At the moment I am still in the free trial period but starting tomorrow that will end and I will have to fork over some money to continue using the service the way that I want. As I mentioned its not really that expensive at all and will only run me about $60 a year. Sure, it is one more thing that I have to account for every year but at the same time, its much easier than me trying to maintain my backups and media on a 1 terabyte drive or something like I was trying to in the past.
iPhoto is actually really nice as well, but it still will rely on my having no issues on my local which means that I would still need to backup. I do that currently but only to my Time Capsule, otherwise I do not backup to an external or to the cloud. Hence the move to find something as I have done. This also makes it much more easy to share photos with family or friends should we want or need to in the future with baby coming into the family.
It's a long process and while seemingly painful, I actually enjoy setting it up and organizing them. I have a lot to learn about the SmugMug website still though. It's much more powerful than meets the eye to be honest. It can be a little unintuitive at times, and some things are annoying - those of which I will not get into at the moment. But for the price it will be my go-to service for the foreseeable future. Let's hope that it sticks around for the long run!
Getting Something Done
Once I mess with getting some more of the photos and videos uploaded and processing I think I will need to get my ass out in the garage and start getting stuff done. I would really like to take about a 30 minute nap but I don't know if that is a good idea. It may put me on the fast track of laziness for the rest of the day. I want to get my last Craftsman cabinet hung as well as its wall system that supports it. I want to get the shelving unit set up for the garage and so on.
At least yesterday I was finally able to go out and get the lawn mowed. It was a little darker out than I would have wanted but not terrible and I did not get interrupted thank goodness. No matter it is now done and may be the final mowing for the season, we will see. Next I need to see if it will fit into the shed nicely and try out the new ramps that Cicely bought me to make it easier to get the mower and the snow-blower up into the shed when off-season.
I really need to run the Honda generator a little as well. It has been nearly a year since I last ran it and I don't want that gas gumming the thing up. Maybe next weekend I will turn it on and let it run for a couple hours to get some fuel and lubrication going through it. That thing was kinda pricey when I bought it, $1200 I think, so the last thing I want to do is ruin something and need to get it worked on if its a non-user serviceable part.
Developed
Otherwise it's just a nice relaxing Sunday. I had hoped that it would rain a little more because it makes the day really nice and soothing - and gives me a great excuse to take a nap. I still can of course but they are just not the same as those with the pitter-patter of drops.
Cicely made it home fairly early last night from the wedding. She said that she had a real blast and that she was bummed that she lost a "dance off" that they had, too funny! I know it's because she did not want to bounce around too much with baby in there and I can't say that I blame her. As her and I said, there is always next year or the next one - right!
Photo: Cicely and I could not resist a Snickers ice cream bar snack today. Dang pregnancy is making me have bad habits - ha ha, but these are soooo good!
