Concrete & Drainage Day 1

Today starts out as it usually does on a day off, weekend day or holiday - getting up way earlier than I should be, which is the total opposite of what most would be doing, and getting my ass in gear for the day. Unfortunately more times than not this early to rise is followed by a spiral of rabbit holes on the internet and the next thing I know its nearly noon, the world has zoomed passed for 4 hours and now its time to make a decision. Play catch-up, or just enjoy the day for what it now has become.

Today I am planning to keep with the trend of the rest of the weekend. While Saturday was probably the least productive day of the weekend it was still much more productive than weekends past, well the past 3 weeks or so anyhow. I dunno, I guess it's just super easy to fall into one of these slumps for a little while - for me its really unusual because I normally have my A.D.D. issue where I want to just keep on keeping on and cannot leave well-enough alone. Some will say that is not the exact definition of an A.D.D. type personality but to them I say what-eva', you obviously have no clue what runs through my head day-to-day on the "to-do" list and related.

Sunrise

Anyway, up and feeding Oggy, then coffee and something to nibble on for myself. While the coffee was brewing it was prime time to get the side gates unlocked, the trash can moved and other things setup for the guys to do the concrete and drainage work today. It's nice getting up and going out when the crisp fall weather hits you in the face, but at the same time that is probably because I am in my comfortable clothes, bundled up and have no place I "have" to be today.

Once the trash was moved, car pulled out into the street it was time to take a few photo's both for before and after comparisons of the work but also "just in case" there are any issues that we need to deal with after the work is done - I really friggin' hope that is not the case. Cicely looked up the company on the web and they did have one bad review but at the same time, it was nearly the only review we were able to find so take that for what it's worth I guess. We have had good luck in the past with all the companies we have used so let's hope the trend continues with this project.

Back inside, enjoying some coffee and waiting for the guys to show up. We were lucky enough to have the lawn guy call us last night to make sure it was ok that he came out this morning to give the lawn the final fertilization and weed prevention for the season. Works for us, makes it a great way to get more shxt done before our workweek starts and before the long cold months of winter are upon us and we were wishing for the 80+ degree weather of spring.

What Else

Well for me I have a lot of plans in my head but we will have to see how many of them are able to come to fruition in one day. Besides the fact we still have the normal weekend stuff to get done today that we have been putting off like the grocery store and laundry I also need to get my haircut. Sure all pretty fast stuff and easy, just has to be accounted for on a day when you want to get shxt done right?

Yesterday I hung the snowboard racks as well as a bunch of other stuff I think I already wrote about it Sunday's entry so no reason repeating. Today I hope for more of the same, but rather getting stuff out of my office so we are one step closer to getting the room setup for baby. I thought we would be much further along with that project by now - nope, kinda falling behind and the months are ticking away pretty fast in my opinion.

TV

Watched a little TV last night while eating dinner and I have to warn you that a shrimp risotto is not the best choice of meals while watching The Walking Dead. The crunching and popping of the zombies heads along with the slurping and gore does not mix well with the sounds of dinner. Although I will say that both my dinner and last nights episode were really good.

I have no idea what they are going to do now that they are having issues with someone feeding the walkers rats, them piling up against the fence more and nearly knocking it down last night. Lots of work ahead to figure out what is going on and how everyone is getting sick and changing without being bitten. The season ramped up quick as expected and is looking to be another really good one.

Sparks Shooting

I had to reopen my entry for today because I wanted to mention for historical reference that there was a school shooting today at Sparks Middle School. From the stories right now there is 1 dead (no word if a student, teachers or what). There are 2 others that are in critical condition at the local Renown hospital. Reports initially stated that the shooter took his/her own life but as of now I am reading that police "neutralized" the shooter and that is all we know. While this is an extremely sad event and I feel terrible for those parents, or families involved I am also saddened that this will give the morons around us all yet another reason to focus on the firearms rather than the issues of individuals.

We quickly forget that firearm deaths are in reality not that high compared to others. For example reading an article yesterday that stated every 8 seconds there is someone dying from tobacco use. Do we hear about this as much, sure in a way via packages and related. Most advertising and glamor has been pulled away from tobacco yet every 8 seconds someone dies? How can that be? Yea I am being extremely sarcastic to make a point I guess.

No matter, I can only hope that everyone will focus on those that need support at this time and to help the kids through what they just experienced. I can only imagine at 10-12 years old it would be a crazy experience to say the least. Let's be wise for once and leave the weapon out of if and not use it as your soapbox once again people.

**Update, the latest interview (linked above if not 404'd now) was with a 13 year old at the school who said that a student fired a shot, a teacher went out to get the gun and told the student to put it down. The student with the gun shot the teacher and everyone ran at which time they heard about 4 or 5 more shots fired. There are no other details right now and I am sure the story will continue to develop as the day goes on, weaving through the facts, what's and why's.

For now, I am going to leave it as-is. I wanted to add this to add this to my entry because having baby on the way it hits home a little differently, although I still do not believe in the crazy gun control laws that most of the uneducated and scared want put in place. It will not stop violence, it will simply make those interested in hurting others come up with other ways to do so.

Drying

That will have to do it for this entry, as mentioned several times - I gotta get shxt done! Sitting on the internet is not going to allow that to happen, well unless I am doing more of my photo and video organization like I have been. Holy crap is that a lot of work! And in reality once you are set-up on a website or service it is really hard to leave I would imagine - actually I know it has to be. I have had to go through all of these photos once for iPhoto importing, now again for SmugMug and nothing has carried over as far as naming and related - really sucks big time!

No matter it will eventually be done and I can then ponder other tweaks and changes as I want. I just hope it's not anytime soon that I get a bug up my ass to change it all to another service! This should not happen, I did a lot of trials and testing before choosing one so I guess only time will tell.

For those of you that are starting the week today - it's Monday after-all, I hope that it treats you well and helps to ease you into the workweek rather than head first on the spin cycle. I have a feeling that will be the way my week will start tomorrow, Tuesday, my Monday because I was out for so many days with work events and now today. Don't really care, I mean I do, but I cant because in the blink of an eye I will be that much older and it will all still have passed by.

Photo: Motto for today to continue the trend of the weekend so far. Really today will be less of a getting stuff done because of interruptions from workers, but I plan to still make the most of it.
