Start With Brunch

Yesterday's time void has managed to creep into today and warp us full speed into noon already, and by the time we ran errands and got back home it was pushing 3:30.

I mean I even managed to get up, feed the fuzzy kid and then screw around on the internet and still make pretty good time. And by-the-way the internet time was for research for once, no really!

Searching Around

What was my research all about? Basically I have been looking for a way to streamline my photos. I have a lot of criteria to meet so that is partially the reason so many have been tried and have not stood up to the test.

Basically I want one that will work between all of my devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac) and it's a plus if they can be viewed on my Apple TV, although I really don't use that much for photo viewing. I want to be able to put the photos into albums, share photos without friends and family needing an account for whatever service I choose to use. Everything in the cloud as well as locally, synced up.

I would like to be able to make minor edits to the photos in an iOS app or even a web based or Mac app as well as easily share individual shots or multiple pictures on social media sites. Another bonus is if the application / service will auto import my current sets from iPhoto. Last, and a huge bonus would be if iPhoto and said app/service could sync up both directions.

Based on my criteria you can see my obvious dilemma. Surprisingly there are many that come very close to being able to do this, but fall short on an important criteria more times than not, ugh!

Flickr has always been a pretty decent service and I have had an account there since 2008. My issue is that it feels like it's the MySpace of photo repositories and more importantly it is Yahoo, which I have always hated.

So the search continues. I would think that Apple would be all over this problem and connect iPhoto with everything. Use the iCloud service to keep it all synced and be done with it. I mean if they can do it with music, photos and video has to be much simpler doesn't it?

Cabinet

So yesterday afternoon I put together the cabinet that I bought off of eBay to use as my firearm cleaning and supplies cabinet above the vault. I saved $40+ or so buying it on eBay and only had to bend out a few crinkles in the sheet metal - prolly why it was selling for so cheap, no big deal at all.

The only problem I have with it is that it did not come with the retainer clip or nut for the lock to secure to the door. I figured this would be no big deal to find but I was wrong. I searched last night and today and had no luck. I did find full replacement locks but I am not paying $25 to only use the $0.10 cent retainer clip. Next stop Home Depot to see if I have any luck finding a fix.

TV Quickie

I cant forget to mention that tonight will be a crazy night of TV. Well not really, but it will be because of the simple fact that it is the final episode of Breaking Bad. I can still remember stumbling across the show and it sucking me in with the first episode. I had heard nothign about it but it was good enough to hook me from the start. Once I had Cicely watch that episode, it was over - we were both hooked for the long run.

Well tonight it comes to an end and we get to find out what happens to Walter. It can go so many different ways so it's going to be interesting to say the least. Not to mention, this week like last week is a 75 minute long show - awesome! I am sure that I will use it as my topic or at least for a short blurb in tomorrows post. Super sad to see it go, that's for sure.

Breakfast

Time to call this entry quits, my breakfast will be here in a few minutes and I am hungry! Cicely was awesome and talked me into going to IHOP for breakfast so it's time to put the phone down, people watch and talk to my beautiful wife.

** So far I found some hardware at Home Depot that might work, we will see. Going to check Ace Hardware next just in case to save a few bucks over buying an entirely new lock.

*** Nothing at ACE, so the fix that I found at Home Depot will be the solution. Basically I am using a "switch nut" rather than the cheap aluminum retainer that they normally come with.

Not that the aluminum retainer is bad by any means, works perfect actually. But finding one online was 8x the cost of getting the nut that I bought. Oh well I am satisfied and more importantly; problem solved!

Photo: Cam / barrel style lock that started a major search for a retainer clip or nut. Not a very interesting photo but one to remind me the smallest of things can cause the biggest scavenger hunt.
