So today was a stay inside watching the snow flurries outside kind of day. I played "manager" of maintaining a warm fire and double duty as a barista for our coffee and tea drinking needs.
For me, this was ten times better than crowds at a mall or dealing with the flurries and cold waiting for us outside. Ok to be fair it wasn't that bad out at all, just dam cold and a few flakes of the white stuff blowing around now and then. More-so it created the perfect excuse for couch potato madness. Hey now, hold-on before you go judging me, I did manage a strength training session and 3.75 miles of cardio, so back off!
Childhood Toys
For the most part though I kept myself busy between cups of coffee by putting together my cool new Big Trak Jr. programmable rover that I picked up from Think Geek last week. It's crazy how much it brought me back to my childhood days, dreaming of bigger and better robots and remote-controlled toys.
Shxt, what happened there? I should be creating some bad-ass robots for the military or creating them to save lives in gnarly situations. Heck nano bots that would enter us intravenously to cure or prevent diseases, possibly repair damaged cells.
Ok now I am depressed, where is my rum? Chug, chug, have I wasted my life?.......breathe.......Ah, all better and over it, moving on. Anyhow, I bet most adults wonder every so often where the dreams of being an astronaut, fireman or game show host went huh!
Anyway back on topic; I have always had an interest in things that are remote controlled, programmable or autonomous. I never took it as far as things like Robot Wars, for example, but I did really enjoy watching shows like that when they were on TV and seeing those that dedicated so much time and effort to it. The ideas and solutions that they would come up with were awesome.
Today however I was content making my Big Trak Jr. rover go forward a predetermined amount, backwards a predetermined amount, or turn and then fire it's laser sound several times as I programmatically instructed via button presses and sequences. Good times!
The junior version of the rover is able to do all of the things as the original just in a smaller package. I was worried it would not be as cool, but it definitely is! Not to forget that it was the perfect early Christmas present for myself, if I do say so myself.
Shootings
Today on Facebook and all of the news sites and related it was nothing but more news and ramblings about the shootings in Connecticut.
I understand that people want answers and want to understand what goes through someone's mind that would do such a thing. The problem is that the things that they are blaming are only making them sound ignorant. Focus people!
I will leave this subject alone as I think everyone will have heard enough about it in the coming weeks and I will do nothing more than pour salt in the wound. I just hope it mellows out soon and people understand, as I mentioned before, that it is more important to help those that are mentally ill versus trying to take away from everyone else to solve a "problem". I am sorry to say that if you whole heartedly believe that is the solution then you're only fooling yourself.
Not to mention what this does for the media, lots of spins and dirt for those assholes to mold to their liking, only to perpetuate the next mass killers ideas. Bigger, badder, bloodier and more shocking will then be their goal I am sorry to say. Dont forget, even piece of shxt sickos wanna be number 1.
Northern Nevada Kart Club (NNKC) Awards Banquet
Tonight is my kart racing clubs annual championship banquet and the second one I will have missed in 8 years. I have to say that it feels strange not being there to collect another championship trophy.
Yeah I am being a little cocky saying that I would have won another championship. But hey I did win 3 in a row and there are not too many racers that can say that. Especially since I was racing against some of the best drivers in the area. Whats-more is the fact that my annual racing budget was nearly half of my competitions.
It's okay though, all good things have to come to an end at some point. Hopefully to be replaced with more great things, that-is if you play your cards right. Plus with some of the problems I have been having with my back, I would much rather be able to do day-to-day activities I enjoy versus racing a few more years and messing my body up much worse. Breaking ribs and other injuries in general just got to be too much. It was only meant to be a hobby to pacify the adrenaline junky that I am, not my career after all. Although racing for a living would kick ass and there is nothing like taking a corner at 70 mph and experiencing 2.5 to 3 G's of force!
Vegetable & Chicken Soup
After the grocery store tonight Cicely and I stopped by dad's house to pick up some of his awesome homemade vegetable and chicken soup. What a perfect night for a hearty homemade soup!
Usually this time of year he spoils us with all different types of soup. For some reason this year he has not made as many soups, actually this is the the first one. It may be due to the injuries from laying his bike down, I can totally understand that if so!
Selfishly though, we are still hoping for some of his special recipe homemade chili. Because not only is it awesome on it's own, its the main ingredient when we are making our perfect, spicy, chili cheese hotdogs!
I should mention that I am not a huge hotdog fan, but take a big scoop of my dads chili and dump it over a couple toasted bun encapsulated hotdogs, sprinkle with shredded cheese of your choice and it transitions an ordinary hotdog on a bun into a mouth watering, hunger crushing feast!
Enjoy your Saturday
I am almost down to the last drop of my cup of coffee. I am interpreting this as a sign for me to go hang out with my better-half and fuzzy kid by the fire some more. Possibly watch little TV or a few movies on Netflix. Most importantly enjoy our time together.
